What's the Most Annoying thing people do here!

Yeh that was the pet peeve I said in the first reply to this thread.

It happens to me with Kobe, where they'll offer me a card for say $200. When I reject they sell it in a sale thread for $150... Wtf?

And Longleys are the same for me too recently.

I think the 3 Longley collectors in the world, drive up stupid prices for Longleys cos we compete against each other and dont know when we'll see another one.

But guess what people, after the first 3 are sold, watch the price drop by 70%... It is only Longley after all;)

Exactly! JR preferred was selling through the roof, now selling 60% cheaper. I prefer to pass on a card then pay stupid prices on it.

Honestly, unless it's something for a PC and there is no price listed I pretty much don't bother these days. The other part is those that ask for a best price you can do, or a bulk price and then don't reply. Least you can do is say you'll pass so that I can keep them available for others rather than wait in limbo.

Gotta be careful if you ask that... apparently its lowballing... so I was told cause I would ask people their best price, just in case, then when I said no out of my reach thank you anyway... it's wrong or something. I often ask for best price or a bulk price, and if its beyond me I reply.... I would say the thing I hate most is being called a low baller when I rarely ever make an offer, most times declining if it's beyond my means. Never used to think asking in hope of a miracle low price and then declining when it was more than i could afford was such a terrible thing to do.

I would say people who get bargains on ebay then try to rip people off by attempting to flip with a 300% plus mark up with no real proof of market increase are the ones that get my goat. Thankfully I am generally not in the market for those cards... bad enough when people make me pay more than I should for a Morrow card, when ebay these days pretty much proves the only person buying Morrow is me.

Guilty of this with Korver...I think the 1st #/10 Signatures Film on eBay I won for $31...the last 1 that sold went for about $2  If only I could tell myself that I WILL see another...

$2 for a auto /10? Just goes to show that the number of sets/parallels have got out of hand.

Yeah it really has. I think I made the comment in a mailday the other week, everything is a rainbow hunt now it seems. Which I guess creates the desire to collect, the competition to keep card values up for the most part as long as the player is a desired player (which Korver generally isn't so I'm lucky), and so the market for cards remains strong due to the desire to complete the rainbow. Who knows how to fix that though  And us suckers keep going back!

Human nature, you need to have it all!

Firstly, love the site. Two pet peeves:

1. People putting 'make an offer' on sales...GO TO EBAY!!! (loving how many people hate this...site rule change?)

2. Clearly getting in first on sale threads, then having the seller get back to you with "sorry that card is sold". Translation: "sorry, I was waiting to see if any of my friends wanted it, and now that I realise they do, too bad". The 'first in best dressed' system was one of my primary loves in this community. I met great people through this system and the place always felt inclusive. This is a growing problem in my experience. At least a a fair few people are still using it, just hope it doesn't die out.

People cracking it because you won't buy something off them in your wantlist - more specifically, just because you list it doesn't mean you will get a mortgage for the card and pay ANYTHING they want for it!

People taking offense to offers on cards they have for sale with no prices listed. For one, prices should be attached to every card, so if I send you an offer which isn't in your mysterious ball park land - no need to not reply / block me if you are taking offense to the offer. When I sell my cards I list prices with every one of them and encourage any kind of offer - if it's too low then I will kindly decline it.

Regards

Im of the other school of thought. If I pull a card of your PC player, and I decide to pm you about. I will always offer it for less than the lowest ebay sale, and tell you to keep me in mind if you ever pull a Kobe/Longley I need.

Thats what makes this site great.

I will keep that in mind, maybe you can offer the same when you pull any of the players I collect. I think the forum must have lost some old school collectors who are cool with helping each other's PCs out. I remember those days when people will contact me when they have a certain card without me having to go through all these sale threads.

So here's a few things I hate:

1) After agreeing to a bulk deal where only the number of cards are given and I have gone into my pile and pulled out all the cards, the trader backs out of the deal.

2) People wanting to pay close to nothing for cards but unwilling to sell at the same rate.

3) Sales threads with no prices, make an offer. Like blowoutcards, we should have rules to stop that.

I want to add to mine gripe with this:

When someone says they have a card of your PC player and make an offer. You offer a very fair price, and you get countered with 3 times your original offer, as apparently that matches multiple other offers they have gotten on it. After telling them they should accept the other offer and run, it then appears for sale 10% higher than your offer elsewhere a fortnight later from the same owner.

The hobby has was too many profiteers these days, its not cool.

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me not long ago, i told the seller to take the crazy offer they had apparently recieved (it's easy for me to call this bluff, who else is collecting high end gallinari?). Seller quickly 180'd and accepted my (incredibly reasonable) offer. But not without dragging it out and trying to make me feel like they had done me a huge favour. It was all a bit of a joke to be honest.

These guys that just want to make money astound me, the supposedly PC only the top players, kobe, lebron, kyrie durant etc. and I think that in the end, they're the only players that they know in the league at all cos that's where the money is. What is the point? There are a lot better ways of gambling your money if all you are looking for is the pay day

Yep i know how you feel. The difference between my offer, and the countered offer was almost $100. I know the market for my PC player, that big of a variance I'm going to pick up on.
