Looks like a nice set but like a lot of other people I agree there a far to many parallels. In fact 1 parallel is 1 to many.

Only possible change I would have liked is for the Master and Apprentice to be on the 1 card like the Double Troubles but a good concept.

It's funny how some people like some things and others don't

Some like the idea of parallels others don't... Some only like them if they use different pictures of the players

Some like the idea of a back to back card like the fast and furious others would prefer them on a separate card.. If the master and apprentice are a separate card I think they should reflect between the two players on the back

Man so much potential in this set!! Could be great
Let's hope China and their quality control don't Fuck up again

Yeah I wouldn't mind the parallels if they used different picture of the player but when it is just the same card doesn't matter of they make it shiny silver, black or gold it doesn't interest me.

Can someone who talks with ESP ask why they found it necessary to have two levels of parallels this year in both their releases? I hope the answer isn't just so they could make more money.

As just some quick maths as I used to try to get a full master set it would take 18 boxes to get the full gold parallel and 6 boxes to get the basic parallel not taking into account the probability of doubles. That is a massive amount of boxes almost 2 cases for a card with the same image but a shiny background.
144 cards divided by 24 packs in a box, then multiply by 3 for the gold.

The thing is an extra parallel set would likely cost them money, especially when the pack price is the same as last year.

For them, like Traders they were looking at adding some extra value into the release by having a different parallel.

Cheers
Matt

Parallels really annoy me. I could cope with one set of them - but two is really frustrating haha.

Especially when it comes at the expense of 3 other commons. Give me a team set of 15 with 15 parallels over a team set of 9 with two sets of parallels.

I feel a bit the same way; I would like more commons and please why not include a team header card they look good in pages and are ideal for auto's of the players not included in the release. However I don't mind the added value of an extra parallel set (although would probably p^ss me off if I was collecting a master set)

I've enjoyed keeping up with discussion as it's progressed. I think keeping team set numbers low for the ELITE set is the correct thing to do - Traders is imo where the large team sets should be found. The cards in the flyer look great and I can certainly see some thought has gone into the expanded range of inserts - well done ESP. Again, I agree that having different backgrounds for the same shopped player insert pic is disappointing. The thing I really liked about the 2013 Elite Signature inserts was that the central design merged into a white border - it just looks nice (and also hides any tiny corner dings much better than a coloured border). It was disappointing personally to see that only the (unsigned) Heroes parallels have this same aesthetically pleasing design feature.

As a master set collector though (the joys of starting collecting when there were only 115 cards in a set and "inserts" comprised checklists and stickers), I've found the 2014 Traders set very daunting (and I'm still about 9 cards short), so being faced with ANOTHER 600+ card set, especially with yet another 1 in 3 full parallel set, has got me questioning should I even bother, especially as some of the 2014 Traders boxes I busted had parallels that were EXACTLY the same (with the exception of IND, GS and RTS cards - and even then 1 box was EXACTLY the same as another).

So, personally, pros and cons.

Regards
Mike

PS: Who's going to give me a really good deal on 2 (TWO) sealed (not opened and checked to make sure everything is there) cases shipped to Perth??

With the Wholesale price of a box up by around 20% and no discounts with IKON on cases there won`t be too many cheap boxes available this year .....

Folders have increased to $29.99 but they do have an extra packet this year but only from dealers folders not the Newsagents as they only have 1packet at $24.95.....

I actually don't mind the rarer special parallel set - it at least puts a bit of a challenge into collecting them.

The straight parallel set could be replaced by something else. Maybe a set of 5 Holden Cup players for each team inserted one in every two packs.

I can even customise my old suggestion to a 15 team set.
9 commons (ie. 1 - 9 in checklist) and 9 parallels

6 other cards per team containing players not featured in the team set.
1 x captain foil (FC1)
1 x star forward foil (FC2)
1 x star back foil (FC3)
1 x rookie foil (FC4)
1 x Holden Cup player foil (FC5)
1 x Club Legend (FC6)

They could release a set with 5 sets of different foils n I'll be happy but I think the problem is they're using the same picture for all of them. Using the same pic makes it like the base set but with a shiny background and will be low in value, using a different pic will make it more unique I think

Lets just hope the folders are a better quality than previous years if we are paying more for them .....

My son has had his 2014 Traders in a 2013 Traders folder - three different ones. Just wear and tear, flipping pages and carrying to and from school, the metal binder has broken away thrice.
