I'm not looking to cause trouble by any means, but it's become apparent over time there's vastly differing opinions on what should and shouldn't go down on this forum.

i've also had expressed to me by numerous members (both some i know personally, and other's i know only through the forum) over the last year (or possibly longer) serious concerns about the effect of a perceived "dictatorship" amongst moderators.

i'm certainly not here to debate the merits (or lack thereof) of such accusations. what is clear though, is an element of discontent with the current power structure on ozcards, from a significant portion of members. I believe making those in control (whomever that might be) accountable for their actions, as in ANY functional democracy, may very well be the answer.

might i propose we, as a forum, elect a group of representatives.
The representatives would be responsible, via private group discussion &/or vote for any conflict resolution AND also for appointing moderators.

any member of the forum would be welcome to declare themselves for representative candicacy.
any member of the forum would be welcome to vote for a defined number of representative candidates.

this way, everyone would have their say.
a final word, i'm sure this isnt the be all and end all resolve to this situation, but its a step in the right direction i believe - most of all i hope, as a group, a community and indeed a team, we can get what we most want from our beloved Ozcards.
 
I agree, we need a fair system that gives people the fair go to express their opinion without the thread being closed off or deleted because someone does not like what is being said.

There should be a time out thing where you if found to be in error to a guideline be given a 1 week suspension, if you are then found to re-offend a 2 week suspension then 1 month then if the person can not learn to abide by the same guidlines as other members a permanent ban placed.

It sounds large but a 11 member group (jury) would give a fair chance to the member in question to rule on if they went outside the guidelines and should be imposed a suspension.

Just my opinion......
 
If the minority of members didn't carry on like children then the mods wouldn't have to make unpopular decisions. Tell the idiot members to pull their heads in, and the site will continue carrying on as it should.

It's a lovely idea Proto, but it's not going to happen.

i have to say, 11 sounds like a good number - not too few, not too many, most importantly not an even number
 
I think a poll may not work due to that you would need a week so every member has a chance to vote. Where if you have a elected group less time can be wasted in coming to a verdict. The members of this group would have to be very regular attendees for it to work.
 
I do not see a problem here. The mods are doing an excellent job.

Are there any particular incidents which have lead to these feelings about the mods (apart from of couse the latest banning)? If so, please fill me in.

This call for an overhaul might be an overreaction in itself...

From what I've noticed, there have been 4 suspensions/bannings of note including:
  • AnthonyPowerAnthony
  • 2 other current members who served their suspensions
  • Justdabest
oh and some of our American 'friends'

Noone really disagreed with any of those decisions except for the latest one.

I dont actually see how there can be a perceived dictatorship over the last year from this one decision??
 
i'm not saying anything for or against the mods, just saying lets see what the whole community thinks.
Also I know that certain people funded the site and maybe they should vote in a seperate poll for or against a jury.
 
Personally I think it's a ridiculous idea. The mods are there to do the job to keep the forum functioning the way it should. Sometimes there are idiots on here who do stupid things that aren't really part of doing things the ozcards way (I myself have been guilty of it at times). From what I can tell they do an excellent job and there is no need what so ever for some stupid jedi council to rule on everything.

For the record there is not a forum in the world where members don't think of the mods as nazis, but pretty simply, if you don't like it there is no reason you have to stay here.

Keep up the good work mod team.
 
Dont really see the need to change...not that its a perfect system.
But for the most part the mods do a pretty decent job.
Rules are pretty plain and simple...
Just treat others how you wish to be treated..:D

I disagree with this, this is how stuff starts. By saying members are idiots is not the best leadership.

Yes the mods do an excellent job IMO on 99% of things but the worst part is that it is that 1% that is magnified and remembered the most. And when members start to notice threads being deleted or people being banned.

And just straight up saying it's not going to happen, well all that screams is sorry even though you are a member your opinion does not count.

If you want a trading site to work (and yes I do not have any expierience) but IMO it needs to have members helping decide the path for the future.

And in saying this I do not think that this forum would be where it is today without the work of our mods.

But and if this gets me kicked off it has been nice being here.

Maybe our mods need to think that more help in running and improving this website to one day be the best. Is better than just leaving it the way it is and banning people for what you do not think is appropriate.

If anything above upsets anyone feel free to talk about it before just jumping up and down, we might get somewhere.

You have smashed it right on the head hill33, this is the main problem here from my point of view. their seems to be too many chiefs and not enough indians.
 
I am 100% in favour of THE GROUP deciding what is the best course of action for THE GROUP. In particular serious stuff like banning should definitely be handled this way.

just some of the statements recently have angered me greatly: eg. the idea that if any members disagree with anything then they can basically piss off...it shows a complete lack of respect. rather than accepting divergence of opinion, and trying to work to a harmonious solution for all parties, we get the "my way or the highway" blackmail. and the statement previously when proto suggests a democratic solution: "its not going to happen", seems very close minded and almost arrogant response.
 
You're all acting like a bunch of children, this thread should be locked and everyone posting in it banned for eternity.
