Russell Packer

How can Bird glass his Girlfriend and Lui constantly beat up his girl and both not get anything?? I agree Packers actions were wrong but if no "Stomp to the head" would he have got the same punishment. It just becomes a Gallen vs Myles fight doesn't it?? Just proves that fighting isn't the answer and to keep your fist down.

I also think superstars get targeted by jealous people way to much but what makes a real superstar is how they deal with it. Luckily in our great game there are a lot more true professionals that deal with it the right way.

You make some good points mate. I agree that being easily recognized in public, especially on the drink could be detrimental however I don't know how easily Packer would have been recognized in Sydney, I don't think I would recognize him.

The stomping on the face definitely would added to the penalty, he is lucky he only got charged with bodily harm as opposed to grievous bodily harm which would have attracted a much higher penalty. The whole one punch can kill and alcohol fueled violence is a significant factor behind this penalty and so it should be.

As for Lui and Bird they both deserved to go down. Bird was found guilty at his initial trial however on appeal he was acquitted of all charges. I think he was also cleared of another assault in 2010 in a nightclub. Lui plead guilty to the same charge as Packer but the injuries to the victim were not as bad hence the weaker and insufficient penalty.

Being a warriors and nrl fan im disappointed that a former warriors player would fight and be prosecuted for that acts he committed. But in saying that i cant understand that a player who sexually assaulted a women and was be found guilty of that crime serves no time, opposed to a 2 year sentence not sure how that works out

Ferguson hasn't been sentenced yet but you are right he should be looking at time. His defence however are clever and have sought the adjournment for a psychological exam and this will most likely keep him out of jail. Another point to be considered is that Packer plead guilty early and should be entitled to a discounted sentence where as Ferguson fought the matter and list at trial so is not eligible for any discount. It will be interesting to see what happens with both matters

Heard today that the Knights are going to sack Packer and they stated that they were always going to do so, what about the article last week that said they were going to support him?.

Well the NRL refused to register the contract so it was not like the Knights had any choice.

Im not trying to defend Packer but there seems to be a bit of the "Steve Irwin" rule applied here. If he was one of the games stars I bet the outcome would have been different.

he gets two years which is good but the other clown that king hit that kid got four years for murder there needs to be some sort of consistency in the system.
On another topic I hope that other moron gets charged for murder for king hitting Daniel Christie. What is wrong with people they blame the drugs and alcohol all they want in my opinion they are dick heads and morons before they even started drinking, drinking just gives them the courage to do it.

I think if it was one of the stars the judge would have given the maximum as well...
