Why is it that we have so many members who fail to contribute any more than posting Maildays??

I don't know how many members I could name that just turn up now and then to post their Mailday, fail to comment on anyone elses, and then pissoff again for a few more weeks/months.

I thought we had a great community of collectors here who actually showed respect for other peoples collections, and showed enough respect to the "hobby" to be able to contribute a little more than a post every week/month.

I'm not trying to say that everyone does it, it's just the few that do, really stand out.

Am I in the wrong, or are these people just in it to boast about who has the best (and best I mean expensive) cards on the block????

End Rant, on to discussions......

You know what I've noticed, you rant a lot LOL

But to some extent I agree with you, I would much prefer people that came here came here to discuss things. Not just show off their awesome cards... (only because I feel oh so inferior with my JR Rider collection LMAO)

But then, as long as all they are doing is sharing maildays, and not stirring up trouble, then I welcome them as much as the next person.

I havent Ranted in ages AJ.....

An it's never been about who has better collections, so no one should be feeling "inferior" of their collections.

scotty, i think you have to look at it from 2 sides, alot of people love to bust boxes and show of there cards and like the trading card side of oztraders.

the other side is the members who just like to post and discuss everything from movies to cards to getting a pet rat.lol

i say to each there own and thats what adds to the diversity of oztraders

A do agree to a certain extent Mavs...but i also think that Spree has made a very good point.

Not everyone is the same.

i could agree more with you mavsman.sometimes you see a mailday and think who is that member.i know i have not been a member for very long.and i do post a lot of maildays but they are not to show of as people who see my maildays would agree they are not expensive cards.but i at least reply to other threads that i think i know something about.i don't comment on basketball games as i don't have paid tv therefore i don't watch any basketball games.and i don't visit other sites about basketball except for ones people post in threads here.so i don't know a lot about players either.i just enjoy collecting cards and i enjoy the friendly atmosphere of this site.and i won't reply to a thread of anybody showing of unless they are a new member.that's my 2cents worth

I agree with you Mavs and i think i know the post that set you off this time

People like that are just trying to big note themselves, like hey "look what i have im the best _______ _______ collector in the world"

If you arent a regular member and post on other things dont go posting maildays just to make yourself feel like a bigman

ALso, is the going to be the first in a series of rants scotty? you seem to go a while without one then we get a few close together

While i agree with your argument...i dont agree with this.

We have seen some very cool cards and learnt quite a lot from people who do this. I guess we just have to live with the fact that some people dont want to contribute.

Maybe instead of posts/thread like this we can respond, by simply not responding to their "Maildays".....

Are we gonna go the same way with people who contribute but dont show maildays......from what i can gather Chad has an outstanding collection...but has anyone ever really seen it all....i know i have never seen his photobucket.

Should he be critized in the same way....dont think so....[-X

yes he should! =D> how do we know it really exists? LOL ;)

I agree that we need different types of people, totally!

It'd be boring if we all did the same things.

Why is it you see countless regulars in the mailday section, but never in the Card Discussions pages.

And I personally don't care if people have 100 maildays a week, it's their collection, and we should respect that. It's when they've got 100's of maildays threads, but 0 replies to any other.

It's funny, you see members trying to mix things up, "show us your fave card" which is great, because we get to see what the interests are in our fellow members, but when you see people posting 10, 20 cards for these threads.

Talk about a pissing contest....

Hey i do that mate....i reckon your just jealous cause you can piss as far as me.

It is also that i am proud of my collection. I like to show off my collection....and would do it everyday if i could. When the card in my avatar was in transit from the US....i couldnt wait to show it off and would often email Evan to show it to him again and again.....

Wasnt about me having a better collection than him....just was proud that i was finally about to find/get one...

That's what it should be like Benny. But alas, there's a few who are too ignorant to realise that not everyone can have this, or have that.

They can only get this, and that.

I'll comment on any mailday, regardless if I like that cards. If I know that the collector has worked their arse to get it, or they've been missing something for ages, and finally get one, then you realise how much it means to them, to have someone turn around and say "nice card".

Just to add another point of view,

I only really come on here to post what box breaks I have done,
& to see if any other members want anything from the bust (trust me most of my breaks are busts :p )

I still check what topics are being discussed,
but unless I really think I can help someone out in a topic I won't post.
I don't see the point in posting just for the sake of it.

If I have pics that I think will interest others I will post them up eg. ashes test

does that make me a bad forum member, i have no idea.....................

Definitely not....please refer to my other posts, as i think people have taken mavs first post a little the wrong way.

As i have mentioned it takes all types to make this place as good as it is, and with people like yourself adding interesting things (ie. ashes pics)...it makes the place a better place to visit....

Dont be disheartened....

Each to there own i say....as long as there not giving us any problems then im happy to have em.....
Still it is nice when people still make time to comment on my crap when theres so many brilliant cards getting around...
Thanks ladies and gents:D

and yeah..... he wasn't joking about this!! i was getting sick of hearing about it there towards the end :p :p

but i agree that it is each to their own, and just cos you are a member of these boards, doesn't mean you have to met a certain quota of posts in certain sections??

Nope its all made up

I only post a bit of what i get as i like to share but I dont see why EVERY card i get should be posted up etc. I like to share some that I know others might find cool and interesting to see but I don't buy simply to post maildays or collector kudos. I've seen that sort of stuff on beckett in the past and kids hocking everything to keep up and then selling the same cards the next week to have money to buy cards and post a better mailday. Thats really sad. I no one kid that racked up his parents CC to the tune of $5000US just to get cards and boast.

I can see where Scotty is coming from and see a few types of collectors that this applies too. BUT some come here to learn and read from us old folk and rather than posting they learn by reading. They then share their own cards with us as its their way of contributing.

I like to see maildays here but I'd rather see ones that involve cards that mean a lot to the collector and their collection rather than just loads of scans. When collectors are happy Im happy.

It can seem less like a hobby and more about hoarding rather than collecting sometimes.

i really don't think it's up to us to say how much people contribute.. i mean, it's really up to them, any contribution at all i guess is a fair enough one. it's not our responsibility, nor is it our decision to tell people what to do on the boards.
