Mavs Rant #..??

I love Scotty, but sometimes his rants are plain dumb. ;)

We can't make people post what we want them to post. ESPECIALLY if it's specific to maildays. Either this is jealousy, or personal dislike... no offense. If there is someone specific, and he is an ass, then that's understandable. But if someone wants to post here just to showoff their card aquisitions, let them. It's great to see nice cards. It's difficult to maintain posting quality posts in multiple forums anyways eg Beckett. 121s. etc.

exactly, pretty much what i was trying to say through all my posts.

it's like in a game of basketball, the ref makes the call, and no matter how we feel or react to it, it doesn't change it (unless you get a tech).

everyone is going to do as they please on this board, because we always want more members, specifically if we only allowed people to access this board if they fulfilled certain requirements (ie- posting in every section) then we'd have less than 20 people.

All I'm saying is it's better to have members who post regularly, who are all familiar with each other, rather than posting once a month, when a new card comes in, then pissing off to another place......

Sure we have a few members who are members of multi-sites, I included and trying to spread their chances of picking something up, but to only post your maildays, and not even comment on anyone elses but your own, it plain ignorant.....

I agree with Mavs and find it hard to believe that people that collect so much and buy so much yet can't find anything else to contribute to hobby discussion at times. Either they know everything and don't want to share their knowlege or they don't know much and just buy.

This place is ozcards and I'd hate it to become just a 'show your cards' forum like others have in the past.

Well, after reading Scotty's most recent post, the best way to approach this is to encourage them to participate more. Not rant about it. ;)

I personally don't like the "posse/gang" status that ozcards might/have become. When someone stuffs up, or does something that isn't up to ozcard expectations, everyone jumps on him/her.

pffttt he is just voicing his opinion and its not hurting anyone. I'd just say it disapoints me rather than gets me fired up.

The constant bumping of the posts you are inferring too anoys me as some members just don't know when to let a thread die. Thats one problem.

And its hardly gang like. Its just people voicing their disapointment as this board has higher expectations than others and there is nothing wrong with that. We have our own little card utopia here for the most part and some problem members or other things stand out a lot more than on other sites where its less surprising to see members rip each other off or attack other members etc.

yeh he was voicing an opnion, no one was named, whats the harm?

isnt this the point of the heated discussion area, to vent your frustrations, and thats all scotty was doing, and i still agree with him :)

Are we gonna go the same way with people who contribute but dont show maildays......from what i can gather Chad has an outstanding collection...but has anyone ever really seen it all....i know i have never seen his photobucket.

i have seen chad say a more than once that he doesn't like showing maildays or his collection in fear of it creating competition and that he only collects for himself etc. so i was wondering how so many people here found out that chad has an amazing collection?
its just a question here, please don't attack me! :p

I still remember the day our old mate Tezza created the Heated Discussions forum for exactly this sort of topic.....aaahhhhh the memories!!!!

Yup I agree, I found it quite an interesting subject.....everyone seemed to keep civil and many opinions were voiced without harm.......:)

I show the maildays I want to share. I have nothing against them but its been proven that from time to time its creates a competitive environment.

We seem to do it better than most other places though. There are more vintage collectors here now and fear as you have put it doesnt' come into it at all. Maildays can encourage as some of mine have proven so its not all bad.

Its just sometimes I don't feel like sharing or putting hours in scanning cards for everybody else's benifit. Some ask about particular cards and i'm always happy to help out with info or a scan of one if I can.

I reckon this thread has caused ore contraversy than it has saved.

I am now "nervous" when posting a mailday incase it is "not up to standards"...or i am listing something that will be frowned apon??

As long as you enjoy your mailday, that's all that should really matter. Who gives a crap what anyone else thinks ?

WOW, what a mixed bag of comments.

A good rant never hurt anyone.

Maildays have never been about competitions, (unless they were back in the Rivals ones, that was a bit of fun).
Again, all I was pissed about was people showing up once every blue moon, posting a mailday, not caring to comment on anyone elses, and pissing off again.

I'm entitled to my opinions, and I'm always going to express them.

No one should be "afraid" to post maildays in fear of not being up to any standards. There is NO standards to maildays, we're trying to encourage more and more of them.

Just cos you might see more and more high end stuff coming in, doesnt mean your maildays arent as good.

The maildays mean most to those who create them, but it's great to get a pat on the back from fellow collectors. Which takes me back to my rant....

Nuff said.

Peace out.

Mavs
