The basketball world is coming to Toronto in early 2016. Multiple sources told the Toronto Sun Tuesday that the Raptors are on the verge of landing the 2016 NBA all-star weekend. An official announcement is expected shortly that will reveal further details of how one of the sport's biggest weekends will tie in to the Toronto Raptors' 20th-anniversary season. Toronto Sun
Whether it was food poisoning – as trainer Tim Grover claims -- or a 103-degree fever, Michael Jordan wasn't healthy during the fifth game of the 1997 NBA Finals, better known simply as the “Flu Game.” The greatest player of all-time posted a ridiculous line of 38 points, seven rebounds and five assists against the Jazz, and the game is reverentially thought of as one of Jordan's most impressive performances, considering the circumstances. Thanks to Grey Flannel Auctions in New York, fans will be able to bid on the now-legendary black and red Nikes that Jordan was sporting on June 11, 1997. Jordan even signed them for a Utah ball boy after the game, as documented in this photo. For 16 years, the ball boy kept the pair of (presumably unsterilized) kicks secure, but evidently, he wanted to see what type of money the shoes would fetch.
Over the past month, the Celtics have rapidly backed away from their projections this past spring that Rajon Rondo would be healthy for the start of the 2013-14 NBA season, and on Tuesday the organization essentially announced the four-time All-Star would not be in the lineup come Oct. 30. “My understanding and the last time that we’ve had discussions about it is that it’s very indeterminate still, but it sounds like it would be unlikely that he would be playing at the very start of the season,” C’s coach Brad Stevens said from the team’s annual charity golf tournament. “What that means beyond that, I think that’s going to be on his doctors, the training staff and him making the call on when he’s ready. I’ve told him from Day 1, ‘Come back when you’re ready,’ because I think it’s really important that he feels really good when he’s back and ready to play.” WEEI.com
Russell Westbrook isn't making any promises about when he'll be back on the basketball court. But the All-Star point guard does offer something of a guarantee for whenever that day might be. “I'm going to come back and be better,” Westbrook said matter-of-factly Monday, with the same unshakable swagger he's always shown. Paul George is now signed up for 5 year extention with the Pacers. Announced tomorrow.
You know Asik is owed over $8m for this season right?? loltrade him to Miami for Beasley and Jones/Rashard/Griffin/Hamilton... or even Oden as he has no garantee he'll produce anything other than a warm bench.
That is why they had money for Oden, Beasley and 2 scrubs. There is now way they can afford Asik now!yer, they afforded Mike Miller last year, surely they would take a three-peat at the cost of $8 million.
No matter his involvement in a project, the talk always circles back to James’ plans when he becomes a free agent in mid-2014. There’s speculation he may jump ship for the Los Angeles Lakers, though he seems pretty happy living the Miami dream. “I miss the slower pace back home but have grown used to my new city’s little perks like fresh fish and sweet fruit,” he said, already thinking of a retirement homestead. “It will definitely be someplace warm. I don’t want to go back to cold winters.” WWD.com
