Cherry and OzCardTrader present "Oz Group Breaks"

It is a month away but it's highly sought after and I've already had to outlay serious coin to reserve product. So if we can fill one or two in the next 3 weeks, awesome!

I'd like to think it's from years of asking and proving ourselves to OZCT mods and members.

The costs associated in conducting these, before you factor in the time, correspondence etc make them very 'un-profitable' but for me they are valuable because they drive our brand and customer base more than 'a single box' or 'case'.

What we do with this service reflects on OZCT and can damage their reputation, thats something we take very seriously and I respect Graham for saying "no" to me many times and also having the strength of character to say "yes" when he felt we had proven ourselves. It also helps that we are a legitimate business, who pay taxes and therefore cannot take the risks perhaps a hobby breaker could with literally thousands of dollars of peoples property in their hands.

Good question though Wolves!

I have to ask why make Cherry exclusive? Could a well respected member who has been here a long time, has impeccable reputation and who does all the break related stuff clearly visible on camera not also be worthy of doing these breaks?
Part of the reason the ban was put in place in the first place was to support the stores that we have, otherwise every 'long time member' does them and then there are no more stores.
Then we end up in the situation with no stores and every tom , dick and Harry wanting to run a case share.

And you've been round long enough to know that group breaks can quite easily be rigged and just because you've been a good member doesn't mean something can change, plenty of examples of that.

The difference between cherry and all of the dodgy breaks we've seen is that the dodgy ones were on youtube. Cherry does the breaks live and always keeps the cards in view. He has a proven track record of the highest integrity when doing these breaks and that's why we have chosen to put our name beside these breaks.

Which is good, but I know I for instance am quite capable of that too. I only ask the questions so that we can all be well informed.

Hey guys, great to see so much great feedback!

Some points:

1) We are going to offer 30 spot, cheaper 'random team' breaks, 15 spot 'draft' breaks and high end 'hit drafts' for a small number of players.
2) Case breaks are at RRP Price as per Panini's policy, so it is cost price. It's not US price, but thats because there is taxes, shipping, GST and a lot of time required. We have to pay taxes and if anyone thinks we make good mayo on this then they should check out my car...
3) We do want to offer the absolute best value for these that we can though! So, we will have a number of incentives for 'unlucky' people
4) All random.org activity is recorded and available at all times on OZCT via the live feed. All breaks will be shown live and recorded. Happy for anyone to link this vid. I film Recaps the next evening and can link to that following. We are working with a number of live streamers to try and negotiate a better platform for these shows.
5) Thanks OZCT and all your great members. We love giving back to you all because you give us so much enjoyment.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions/suggestions

This next question is directed at both the mods and also to cherry. We have had highly respected members in the past go bad and owe people money.

Have the mods asked or has cherry offered to put up a cash security should the unthinkable happen and he absconds with members hard earned.

Having this security that the mods could then distribute to lessen any loss of the members is something that needs to be considered.

I am not suggesting 10's of thousands , perhaps the cost of a case of gold standard or one of the mid range products

"Insurance" for members.... that's a great idea.

Nothing against local shops or anything but I would rather support a trusted member doing it for the love of the hobby then someone doing it just to make some $$.. It's not hard to do a group break live and keep all the cards on camera... If it's good for 1 then it should be good for others to apply to do it if not then none should be allowed.

I think that's what AJ is trying to get at......

But then when there are no hobby shops selling boxes in Australia, the question will be asked why we didn't do enough to try and support local business.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Competition maybe? That's always healthy. Restrict the number of ppl doing here - look at feedback, years of loyalty etc....

Shops are not going to die just because others are allowed to do group breaks.. They have survived this long without doing them so why would anything change?

I'm not saying let everyone do them but if you're going to allow 1 why not let 2 or 3 others apply to do them also?

There is actually a way to allow others to do group breaks plus support the local businesses.

Let other members do group breaks ( if they want to and are well known ) but the cases must be purchased through cherry, mr p, a1cards, d&g collectables, sonny or whodat at whatever cost they have to pay to get the case from overseas

Agreed the local business may not make money on these deals but think of the business they could generate
