2013 ESP Elite NRL Cards Thread (Updated 5/8/13)

They said they would release the number ones though.

Select is the only other card company in the world that keeps the number one cards, there's no way I expected ESP to be stupid enough and treat us poorly enough as to do it too.

Maybe I'm naive, but when a company says they'll do what 99% of their fellow companies do, I believe them.

how do you know theres 129 there? for all we know thats a load of s*** too, the only thing i know for fact is that the players signed 180.

From what I know, the players signed 180 cards, 130 numbered for release, the remaining cards were kept for quality control and each player is supposed to be getting a set to keep.

Yeah, as i said i understand where your coming from i was just looking at it from there point of view, i expected them to be a little selfish and keep them and i didnt let myself get caught up in the beleif they would be out there even when they said it, i believed to myself that this would happen, i looked at it as if they didnt exist untill proven otherwise by seeing one pulled. Guess it set myself up to not be disappointed now when everyone else is

From what I know, the players signed 180 cards, 130 numbered for release, the remaining cards were kept for quality control and each player is supposed to be getting a set to keep.

So atm we know
180 cards signed
(130 stamped with number, 50 not stamped with number)
of those 130 stamped 1-130 the #1 cards kept by ESP Leaving 129 in circulation
of those 50 un stamped 16 were used in sets given to players leaving 34 at esp (Assuming higher ups, owners etc keep some sets)

So thats the assumption and therefore what we have to go off in terms of whats out there, untill shown or proven otherwise.

Or they should just stamp them one of one and change the slightest detail, (Foil of writing from gold to silver or to red or something etc) that way they have a set that is one of a kind and collectors stay happy aswell. But its no differant to car companies keeping #1 cars like holden etc first off assembly line it happens everywhere im used to it thus why im not dissapointed.

So why does only one other card company in the world do it?

I think it's pathetic you're sticking up for them when they lied to us all and said the number ones would be released.

Their promotional material on the set is also extremely misleading, giving the impression that all cards would e released. The odds they released must also be lies, I assume?

Calm down buddy i never said i was sticking up for them, i never said i agreed with it if you actually asked me the question i would say i think its crap and they should have released them but i was just writing that I myself personally seen it coming thats all just an opinion, so dont go acting like i stuck up for them i just stated that i seen it coming and assumed it would happen and thought alot of others would have too. Just cause your angry at ESP dont go having a hissy fit on here at me just relax!

Does anyone have the information where ESP quoted that the #001 cards would be released. I can't recall seeing this? Anyone able to share where this came from?

Cheers
Matt

You are sticking up for them saying you expected them to do it and you're not surprised.

If a company says they will do something, I don't expect the opposite. I think it's pretty poor form to make out like it's a good thing that they lied to all their customers.

I'm extremely surprised they treated us so poorly.

Ok well sorry you felt that way mate, i never meant to make it look that way just that i was under the impression that they would follow Select in doing so, i didn't see that section where they said they would release them i thought it was all just hearsay and not actually written. so i never believed it thus meaning i assumed they would hold them back. sorry for the misscomunication

Ok, up until just now, I never even knew that Number 1's weren't released to the public. It doesn't really matter to me anyway, cause I have never collected signatures or higher end cards. Just can't afford to.
I wish to ask the question though, what do companies do with the number 1's? If they aren't released to the public and they have no real use for them, I think it would be a great idea if they auctioned them off and all the proceeds go to charities!

Despite this issue and the insert distribution it is still a great set. 54 signature cards with no redemptions over 2 sets, quality players and the odds in the elite are actually achieve able for the average collector who buys a few packs per week.

We are lucky we have a product to collect, NRL cards could easily gone the way of cricket cards after Select's license wasn't renewed. We should be happy overall as there are alot of far worse things to be concerned about in the world.

i agree mate, at the end of the day its 1 card were lucky esp inserted signature cards as it is, they didnt have to they could just continually pump out powerplay sets whilst they have the license so im happy and gratefull for what we have got, if we have 129 sigs instead of 130 then so be it hell i would care if they only pumped out 100 of each sig and kept the others lol, im sure alot of people would be having a differant opinion if they worked for esp and had the chance to be greedy and keep the cards for themselves so thats life we win some we loose some.

With the second set selling out each year and the NRL pretty onto it with their marketing, I don't think there was ever any danger of there being no cards. There was that article a year or so ago about Select's profits and they were ginormous.

I'm just so sick of these companies walking all over collectors. Imo they have mislead us purely by not coming out and saying before the set was released that there would only be 129 of the league leaders or whatever they're called being released to the public.
