2013 ESP Elite NRL Cards Thread (Updated 5/8/13)

WOW!! they said they were letting them all out, i think there are a few buyers that went chasing those number 001's because esp said they were not holding them back.....not real good move i think

Just had confirmation that all #001/xxx signature cards will be retained by ESP from this set and moving forward.

Cheers

Matt, next time you're putting questions to ESP, would you mind asking if there are any usage/licensing rights that encourages card makers to do clearcut designs? I'm a big believer in common cards being action shots of players playing rugby league on a rugby league field and that the fancy photoshop antics and splashes of club colours should be saved for the inserts. I would have thought it easier and less time-consuming to not clearcut the commons, yet we haven't seen a set like this since the underwhelming 2011 champions.
Made me think whether the likes of ESP and Select may run into trouble with the bits of advertising hoardings or players etc who may appear in the backgrounds of these cards and require additional usage rights.
Maybe it just a trend thing and card collectors at the moment favour patterned/cleaner backgrounds that work better for sigs - but I would have expected the card companies to take the easier route - at least for the 'Traders level' set - and just punch out action photos with a nice border around them.

Psyched about my Elite boxes arriving....even though all the commons look the bloody same again.

Wow, just when we thought things were getting better.

Im sure if i look hard enough on here i can find that statement made by ESP that they had absolutely no intention of keeping the 001's.

Cant help but feel screwed over, one of the big drawcards of this release was finally getting the chance to pull a 001. Thanks ESP, another fat load of snot spat in the face of the people who pay good money for what you produce. Great way to keep collectors on side.

i for one dont care that the #1's arent out in the public this means the lowest number you can get is 002, so its pretty much a #1 card if you look at it that way. And the fact theres only 104 future stars now and 129 league sensations only helps there status rise so as much as some people are upset Its just how it is. Wont let me stop collecting the hobby over a number on a card :D

thats pretty much what i said, the buyers that forked all the money out chasing the number 001's are now really PISSED off

i think the drama is the way they did it...they told everyone that they would not be holding back the 001's so people chased them only to find out that they in fact lied to the collectors (Again) and kept them without saying anything and now some people are really pissy about it....

Personally I don't care about the number on the card when I get a sig, but it's the way they lied to us about the number ones being available and don't give collectors the chance of getting the most sought after cards in the set that upsets me.

There's no reason whatsoever for them to hold onto those cards.

I've been a supporter of ESP from the beginning, but this is just a kick in the guts to all of us. I've lost faith in them, much as I had done with Select.

Ill rephrase im assuming theres 129 lol I can understand why some of you are pi##ed and gutted thought would be a kick in the guts for hardcore collectors such as you girds, i guess im looking at it from a biased point of view considering im not as invested in the hobby as you.

I was only looking at it as the way of if theres 129 now then thats there choice, even if it was only 120 thats there choice. I agree its wrong to state theres a certain amount of cards on the market yet then announce its less but in saying that we should all just expect things like this to happen in the first place, i assumed at the begining #001 wasnt out there and then when they said its not its like ohh ok assumed it, if they were then bonus. But them getting people excited about it is wrong they should have just said nothing then this way nobody would assume there out there.

I was just saying we should expect the #1's to be held back, if select done it for years its only logical once ESP busted numbered sigs they would hold them back too, hell if the young guns were numbered id assume they would have done the same!

Not sayings right or wrong, just saying its not like this is a suprise alot of people would have assumed that ESP would do a 180 and change their mind.

Again im sure what im saying is not popular amoungst collectors but from where im sitting im glad we have a product at all on the market let alone nothing,

I think it comes down to 2 decisions If there not going to release the #1's then thats there choice they made the product they decide what happens with it. so where left with 2 senarios

a) They release signature cards with no serial numbering and therefore we have no idea how many are held back released etc:
b) They release cards /130 etc and hold back the #1's meaning were assuming theres 129 in circulation.

If its down to only those 2 choices im happy with option B thats all im saying, however if we had the choice of a C) with #1's released that would be a bonus
