2013/14 Ashes non Official thread !!

I wonder why the 3rd umpire can't have a direct feed from stump cam to see no-balls as they happen, then message the on field ump if there is a no ball. It seems that they only check a few dismissals, and who knows if others have been missed; we saw what happened with Siddle, though the 2 poms bowled in this innings weren't no-ball checked.
Even without a dismissal, the no-balls are another delivery, and one run to the batting side, and bowlers over indulging in no-ies should be taken aside to get their techniques sorted out.

He sure did. I still can't work out why the umps need to rely on those camera angles to check on catches like that. Why didn't square leg ump see it??

I wonder how England will play it this morning - go the tonk or plod along?

They have far more than they need at this stage anyway, we'd be flat-out struggling to make 566 in two innings, let alone one!

I think that what happens after England declare or are bowled out will be crucial to the future of the Australian team under Darren Lehmann. I can't see him putting up with poor performances for too long, particularly lazy, thoughtless performances.

Root gets out for 180 and than England declare at 349-7

Australia's target is 583, which we won't worry about because that won't happen lol

5 Sessions and 3/4's to bat

3 for 36 and couldn't be more f**ked if we were Linda Lovelace! It is just a really sad state of affairs at the moment, I honestly can see no way back for the Australian team in this series or the home Ashes series.

I reckon Boof will tire of this pretty quickly.

I totally agree.

Very sad indeed. There's no real short term answers either.

The quicks have been pretty solid. Our batting is as bad as it can get. What do we do? Sack the 3 or so batsmen that aren't performing and risk the new guys struggling as well? Or stick with them and cross our fingers?

Scary times. Maybe 2 Ashes series weren't the best idea this year:)

khwaga did play well. he is a good number 3 so that's that problem solved. Watson is no opening batsman he's stats suggest this. he should be used as a all rounder but will you get the overs out of him? Clarke should bat 4 , hughes 5 and smith or Watson 6. Australia need to find a opening bat badly because the rogers experiment is not working and he's 35. Watson has scored 2 centuries in 42 matches, yes he is a good choice for opening the batting for the ODI matches but not the test squad. he can't be relied as a opener. warner has scored 3 centuries from 19 matches and he averages just under 40 so get him in asap. drop rogers for warner or drop Watson for warner. one of them has to go. bowling wise there is no problem but gaz lyon would get more turn then agar.

So the DRS is definitely rigged hey? Agar given not out originally, no hotspot and hard to say if their is a noise...so they overturn the decision. Such bullshit...you need conclusive evidence to overturn the decision.

no hot spot but snicko showed that the ball nicked bat as it went passed. greg blewett was talking about this during the lunch interval. he said that sometimes hotspot doesn't show up with the very faint ones even though the ball has been hit. I think he got a very faint nick on it and snicko proved it

Yep maybe, but it's not conclusive enough to turn around the decision. There was no hotspot and they are not allowed to use snicko. The sound of what might be a faint nick is not enough to turn around the decision. Just like LBW decisions should not be turned around unless it is completely conclusive.

agreed if the 3rd umpire doesn't have snicko then there is no way it should of been given out. in the end though there was a faint nick and he was out.
anyway I wasn't expecting the game to unfold in the way it has after England were 3 for 20 odd on day 1.
