Canberra Raiders sack fullback Josh Dugan

UPDATE: THE Canberra Raiders today sacked troublesome fullback Josh Dugan.

It is understood Dugan will work out some form of a release from the final two years of his Raiders contract.

The decision was taken by the board this morning and they will make it official at a press conference at 1.45pm AEDT today.

Last night, Brisbane and Penrith emerged as clubs interested in Dugan, a former NSW Origin fullback.

There were also suggestions he may opt for a stint in French rugby union.

The drama comes after Dugan and teammate Blake Ferguson were photographed drinking on the roof of a Canberra home on Tuesday. Police were called over the antics of Dugan, who was supposed to be in rehab.

Raiders players were angry yesterday at the pair's off-field behaviour. Most claimed to be "fed up".
Ferguson is expected to be retained by the club today but will be given a final warning.

Canberra coach David Furner was unavailable for comment last night.

Some Raiders players had told management they would baulk at re-signing if Dugan remained.

One Raiders source said: "Furnsey has backed Dugan time and again, even to the point where other players expressed surprise.

"This is the thanks he gets. The coach has spent another full day discussing and acting on Dugan and Ferguson.

"He should be spending that time preparing his team for the match against Gold Coast (this Sunday).

"If Dugan goes, there won't be too many tears."

Talented and elusive, Dugan was once touted as being a long-term Canberra and NSW fullback.

Injuries and ill-discipline, though, have hampered and stalled his career.

The Panthers have money and have been touted as a possible suitor for Dugan. The Broncos may also join in any negotiations.

Both clubs would need to impose a strict disciplinary code on Dugan, whose personal problems have mostly involved alcohol.

It really goes to show that some players really lack intelligence doesn't it...not only has he been disrespecting the club and other players, he actually posted photos of himself sitting on a roof and drinking while he is injured...just moronic

Dugan is just a d***head with an ego and a bad attitude who thinks he can do what he wants.

My sister knows him and from what ive heard that sums it up. Pity though because the young Raiders fans loved him. Oh well he didnt ask to be a role model and cant ask a bogan to act like one either. Oh well he still isnt as bad as Todd "spits in womens faces when they reject his advances" Carney.

Reports on the Gold Coast news saying that the Titans are going to make an offer to him to play up here.

Thats OK we can fix it. We have taken on Chris Walker, Greg Bird, Nate Myles and Albert Kelly

I do feel for the raiders in this situation, you know whatever team he goes to he is going to be reformed and tearing it up.
That does worry Me! The first two times Carney went back to Canberra with the Roosters and Sharks he dominated and tore the Raiders apart. I hope that Dugan deals with with whatever issues he has and reaches his potential, he is going to be a Dad mid year so he better sort his shit out!

They might struggle with that. Not like he has been arrested for something. Carney got banned from Goulburn.

he has been charged for unlicensed driving multiple times while with the Raiders, nothing like Carney in that respect but I think the breaking of club policies and the traffic history could be enough in this instance

Not necessarily. SBW didn't do anything illegal but still got de-registered. I think the NRL need to do something otherwise what is the point of a contract if you can walk out whenever you feel like it and get picked up by someone else.

He didnt walk out though. They terminated him. Surely you cant tear up a contract (leaving him with no income) and not let him find another club.

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have received no formal request from the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority to interview players.
Sea Eagles General Manager David Perry met with players today and confirmed that ASADA has not identified any person at the Club that it wishes to interview.
"We have made it clear to ASADA from the outset that we will cooperate with them in every way and they have said only that they may want to question players and club staff as part of their wider investigation at some time,” Mr Perry said.
The Club reiterates its complete faith in the programs and procedures in place during the period ASADA is investigating in Rugby League.
The Sea Eagles squad is focused solely on Sunday evening's blockbuster clash against Newcastle Knights at Brookvale Oval.
"This cloud has certainly been a big concern for everyone across the game but, as we saw from the opening round, our men are dedicated to getting on with the business of winning football matches," Perry said.
