WARRIORS utility Elijah Taylor is to reunite with his former coach Ivan Cleary at Penrith in the 2014 NRL season.
Warriors football general manager Dean Bell said the Auckland-based club did all they could over the past 12 months to re-sign three-Test Kiwi Taylor.
Taylor has agreed to join Penrith, who are coached by former Warriors mentor Cleary.
The 23-year-old made his NRL debut in April 2011 and has made 44 first-grade appearances, scoring six tries. He was named the Warriors' Clubman of the Year in 2012.
"While it's disappointing he's going, our recruitment and development operation is in the best shape it has ever been,'' Bell said.
"Elijah is one of many young players who have come through our system recently and there are many more to come.''
Usually a backrower, Taylor will operate at hooker in place of the injured Nathan Friend when the Warriors open their season away to Parramatta on Saturday night.
Sharks are just the beginning
I cant wait till they move on but i do have sympathy for the other clubs about to go through this.
Thats my understanding to. But once again were are the postive drug tests?
How can guys be suspended just on the word of a Parramatta trainer trying to save his own ass.
They can't and won't be.
One thing is certain though. If there was a shred of hard evidence, they would not be erring on the side of leniency and offering six month suspensions to those that come forward. The NRL needs to be seen as having a zero tolerance for this sort of behaviour and if they could prove it they would be rushing to get the offenders rubbed out and rubbed out for a long while.
dont agree re NRL, they would rather turn a blind eye, sweep it under the carpet then have this out in the open...
