Im in Robina on the Gold Coast. It looks as though the heavy rains have past. We have extremely high winds at the moment and they are bringing down trees in my area. Our house is safe, I live on a slightly higher area so we are out of danger of flooding.
I work in construction and in 2011, I saw 1st hand the devastation in Grantham and the Lockyer Valley. I worked on alot of flood damaged houses around Ipswich and Brisbane and my heart goes out to the people that have just settled back in and are going to go through it all over again. I guess this is one of the prices you have to pay for a waterfront home along the Brisbane River.
The biggest danger on the Gold Coast is the high rise buildings. A few of them have had balcony furniture and even glass panes falling from heights onto the roadways. The next 24 hours will be the harshest period because the flood water will come down to lower lying areas like Brisbane and Ipswich and cause the most damage. You can only hope the flood level predictions forecast are a worst case prediction and they don't rise as high as they are saying.
All the best to our other Northern NSW and QLD Ozcard members who are going through to conditions at the moment.
Cheers
Dennis
