QLD Rain!!

:( So sorry to read that, i hope Clay ( Strop ) and his family are in an safe place and that's they are in good health.

My best thoughts for all the Austrlian who are in this climatic disasters.

still wet and windy on the southside of brisbane

dont know how much rain we've had over night as the wind blew my rain gauge down

luckly im high and dry were i live but some will get a repeat of what happened 2 years ago

Im in Robina on the Gold Coast. It looks as though the heavy rains have past. We have extremely high winds at the moment and they are bringing down trees in my area. Our house is safe, I live on a slightly higher area so we are out of danger of flooding.

I work in construction and in 2011, I saw 1st hand the devastation in Grantham and the Lockyer Valley. I worked on alot of flood damaged houses around Ipswich and Brisbane and my heart goes out to the people that have just settled back in and are going to go through it all over again. I guess this is one of the prices you have to pay for a waterfront home along the Brisbane River.

The biggest danger on the Gold Coast is the high rise buildings. A few of them have had balcony furniture and even glass panes falling from heights onto the roadways. The next 24 hours will be the harshest period because the flood water will come down to lower lying areas like Brisbane and Ipswich and cause the most damage. You can only hope the flood level predictions forecast are a worst case prediction and they don't rise as high as they are saying.

All the best to our other Northern NSW and QLD Ozcard members who are going through to conditions at the moment.

Cheers
Dennis

Sitting here in Carrara... I agree with Blade it does seem to have eased off looking outside, but the Nerang River has broken it's banks and the rain may be the least of the probs atm (water upstream may be the issue)... Apparently the Robina parkway which is just around the corner is "inundated" according to the TV... I work at Tweed apparently that's been hit pretty hard but Im still expecting business as usual tomorrow

Don't worry, Daniel. Apparently sydney's in for it this afternoon. I know we had it pretty bad down here in the ACT on saturday. All Australia day celebrations were cancelled due to the strong wind gusts. In my area we had some large trees blown down just around the corner from me and my little block had the regular small river out the front. Everytime we get sudden deluges like on saturday the common area/stairwell becomes a fast-flowing river about 3 inches deep in a matter of minutes.

This is across the road from us taken two hours ago... you can see the water raised as it is flooding back yards to the left of the photo (The houses are all well raised and seem to be out of danger)

I think our area will be fine It has seemed to ease up now :) ... just some pics I took a cpl of hours ago around Carrara area that some may be interested to see
