Ask me a question about being a teacher

Have u ever taught something and then realised it was wrong or made up an answer to a kids question (reminds me of the Telstra ad - Great wall of china was to keep the rabbits out ?

I'm a 5/6 teacher too mate. I love it, you can have so much more fun with the kids. The grade 4/5 teacher and take the older kids into our 'shed' and lunch time and play them at basketball with a lower ring. Plenty of Dunks.

I've been teaching 6 years and have taught every Primary Year level in that time. The older kids are clearly the best.

Nothing jumps to mind but I'm quite open with the kids if I don't know and will openly admit it and use it as a learning opportunity for them to go and find the answer.

Ha - I've been a yr 5-6 teacher for a few years - really like the age....u teaching inquiry method over there mate? We had Kath Murdoch come visit us this month - she was great.

Here's another question....is it really true that the kids from New Zealand over there are improving the IQ of both countries??:lol:=D>=D>

Yeah we are. Depends a bit on the school. I saw her a couple of years ago, she is excellent. Tried to get her for my new school and she is already booked out until 2010.

Can you spank me?

Sometimes corporal punishment would be good! Unfortunately not in this day and age.

My girlfriend has 1 more year at uni, she can then teach prep to 6 and 7-12 in drama and art. My question is will she find a job quickly ? And will she make enough money for me to stay at home and just bust boxes all day and still manage to pay a mortgage?

Job - depends on the area that you live (and she wants to teach) and what she actually wants to teach. We just advertised a graduate position and roughly 100 applicants, we would average 60-80 applicants for every job we advertise including interstate and international applications. Happy to read her application once she gets to that point before she submits it. The teacher shortage that is often in the media, is often bumped by shortages in specialist secondary school subjects and hard to staff areas (remote).

For the second part of the question - keep buying lotto tickets! Unfortunately it's the wrong job for thinking you are going to retire by 40. The pay is good, but not quite enough to retire on!

I always wanted to be a teacher. But could never decide on whether to go for primary or secondary education. Im also unsure with how my attention span would go with uni, so now im just in a rut on the railways! The choices (or lack thereof) we make in our lives huh
