Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

LOS ANGELES LAKERS, PHOENIX SUNS, FREE AGENCY, TRADE, STEVE NASH | SHARE
Paul Coro: In the Nash sign-and-trade, the #Suns will get 2013 & 2015 first-round picks and 2013 & 2014 second-round picks

This is really strange for PHX to do this. They get virtually NOTHING in return! They could have at least traded him for Roddy B or someone, you know.

Mavs are literally fucked this season, what else is going on this year, anything worth following, lol.

If we keep Kidd, we're still screwed. It would be nice for him to mentor Cunningham, but unless we can sign SOMEONE, we're rooted!

Nash was an Unrestricted Free Agent, so Phoenix was never going to get something in return unless there was a sign and trade involved, so the fact that they got 2 first round draft picks out of it, they should consider themselves happy IMO.

And yes I have to agree, Mavs offseason has not been the greatest. Maybe time to start watching alot more College Ball, see who your likely targets are in the lottery next season .

Absolutely stoked as a Laker fan... Again no first round picks for another year... but starting to get used to that! haha

Starting to feel for the Mavs also, what a shocking last two days for them!

big news indeed with the nash to lakers deal... will be interesting to see how kobe's game responds - first time ever he will be playing alongside an elite pg... i'd imagine his scoring will go up

hopefully phoenix can turn the 4 draft picks the lakers will give them (2 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders) into some nice young players down the track but it will be a long road back for them with nash gone... you would imagine that goran dragic becomes their main target for the off season now - nash gone, eric gordon's offer will be matched by the hornets...

if they do end up keeping gasol, then a lineup of nash, kobe, world peace, gasol, bynum would have to be the best starting lineup in the league hands down and would be tough to defend from all angles due to the unselfishness of nash and the skill set of their bigs - keep in mind he opens the floor up majorly as he is also an elite shooter

the offseason plot thickens... love the nba! : )

wow just read that Nash is a Faker (...opps sorry a Celtics fan slip-up), Laker! I love Nash, great addition for LA and the suns didnt get much in return?? Not sure what does for their defense but Kobe's gonna love Nash's addition to their offence. I would go after Camby if I was LA a cheap defender who if he stays healthy would fill one of their needs. Bostons buildinga retirement home but I'd still give them a shot (if they stay healthy).

Just reading that Beasley has agreed to a 3yr /$17m deal with Phoenix. Strange really, they just shipped out their best front man...

The Phoenix Suns have reached a verbal commitment with free-agent forward Michael Beasley on a three-year deal worth $18 million, according to sources familiar with the deal.

Beasley can't actually sign until July 11, when a leaguewide moratorium on new business is lifted.
Beasley chose the Suns from a group of five suitors after visiting with club officials on Wednesday, while Phoenix also was agreeing to send Steve Nashto the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade deal.

i do like Nash and he will be a good fit in LA BUT.... he's 38 now and signed til he's 41. Lakers arent a young team and have moved their draft picks for this to happen. I like getting Nash and will help for the next year or 2 but after that it will be pretty bleak. Nash will be done, Kobe will be done and not a draft pick in sight LA and Celtics have been like this for a few seasons now and only time will tell if is worth it in the long run. In saying that if LA could land Dwight and get him to resign then that would be some upside.

I agree but as celtics fan im hoping that a great team can be built around rondo, bradley and maybe green (if he starts to play to his potential).... i guess time will tell. LA v Boston in the finals?? would be good for ratings. :)

So we've seen Ray Allen go to BOS and get a ring, we've seen Mike Bibby go to MIA and get a ring, we've seen Kidd go to DAL and get one, and now it's Nash & Hill's turn to head to LAL and try to get one.

I remember when BOS stocked up on stars, but failed to get a ring, and then MIA did it last year and succeeded!

Have to agree with the C's rebuilding around Rondo. LA could build around Bynum but as it stands i'd rather build around a player like Rondo than Bynum so i have to say even the C's look better than LA in the long run.

Mavs re-sign JKidd. Phew, at least SOMETHING is a plus.

Finally, the Mavericks had something to feel good about Wednesday.
After the bleak Tuesday that saw the departure of Jason Terry and the loss of free-agent target Deron Williams, the Mavericks were finishing details on a multiyear contract for point guard Jason Kidd.
Assuming no snags before deals can be signed next Wednesday, their floor general for their championship in 2011 will finish his career with the Mavericks.
Two sources close to the situation said the deal was virtually done and that Kidd’s 19th NBA season, which will take him past his 40th birthday, will be spent with the Mavericks. The deal also will not compromise the Mavericks’ ability to chase marquee free agents next summer.
The Mavericks were scrambling for capable point-guard help after Williams elected to stay with the Brooklyn Nets. There was speculation that Kidd and Williams would be a package deal. However, after Williams stayed with the Nets, that situation changed.

The Lakers also tried to win a ring with/for Malone and Payton....that didn't work either...went close though!
