So, some of you may have seen the thread I posted about going after my dream card - A David Robinson 89/90 Hoops RC #138 with a BGS 10 grade!
I am going to use this thread to track my progress and let everyone know how it is going. I have a feeling that this will be a loooong exercise so it might end up a good read to see it from start to finish??
Firstly, a few things to know about the D Robs:
- There is only 1 BGS 10 in existence. There have been over 1300 RC's submitted for grading with only one getting a 10
- I am not rich enough to buy that one!
- They are reasonably common to pull from the series 1 boxes of 89/90 Hoops but not in the series 2 boxes.
- The major issue with these and most older cards is the centering.
Here is a rundown of the plan at the moment.
I have already contacted the guy who owns the only BGS 10 and is selling it on eBay. He said he has had a serious offer of $1000 but the 'buyer' didn't want to pay sales tax on it so they never went ahead. He is adamant that he will get at least 10 times the prices of the BGS 9.5's, which is around $90.
I have decided to go after my own, so I can say that 'I pulled it myself'!!
I have asked around and the majority of people who have busted these boxes before seem to recall getting around 3-4 of the DRob's per box. So if I was to open a case, I would be hoping to pull 60-80 of them.
Before opening a case, I am going to get 2 boxes and double check the 'odds' and quality.
I have a contact in New York who is willing to live break boxes for me and even submit the 'good' ones to BGS for me.
At this point, I am waiting for the final price so I can order the 2 boxes and will hopefully have then ready to bust by this time next week!
Wish me luck!
