Not sure if it's old news, but apparently UD are getting sued by the NFL Players Association for $1.5 mil, what are the chances they declare bankruptcy and go under you think?

The nfl case is only the latest. They have at least 5 cases going at the moment where they are being sued. If they survive it'll just about be miracle!!

UD still owes money to MLB Properties (didn't live up to their side of the agreement in that legal case), still owes moneys to the MLBPA, still being sued by kareem abdul-jabbar (illegal use of his image in 2009-10 GOTG when he was under contract to panini) and the list goes on....

I heard over at beckett (yes, this is being discussed over there also) that MJ has his own company now and has cut ties with upper deck. At least that's the rumour....

And if they go....they'll take some great brand names with them....Fleer, Skybox:cry: ......Collectors Choice!
Maybe we'll see a Fleer-style liquidation??

I want them to shut down after giving me joy for the first 5 years then blindly rob me for the next 5. So Richard McWilliams, if you are listening. There will be no more star players signing for your company anymore!!!!!!

I don't think all of the licenses will die with UD. Panini has clearly already bought the hoops license from Upper Deck (previously fleer, skybox prior to that) but I would like to see the Skybox name put in it's grave. Just looking at the history of that label - partial buyout by fleer in 1996, bankrupcy and complete buyout by fleer in 2000 (label disappears), label ressurrected by new fleer owners in 2003, Fleer declares bankrupcy in 2005, Upper deck introduces Skybox in 2008-09, upper deck's legal troubles begin in 2009. Skybox has become a cancer for card companies.

Co-incidentally true.

It might stop the market from being flooded with MJ autos too.

Might also be a bad thing due to decreased competition, although I do not know enough about the hobby to form any kind of informed decision on a decrease in competition in relation to the hobby market so would be interested to hear the opinion of someone who does.

I have an MJ auto redemption thats been 2 years already. I wouldnt be suprised if i never see it.

I would think that the liquidators would have to distribute any leftover money towards that sort of thing as it really is 'paid for' goods! If it comes to that I mean!

People owed redemptions would be a fair way down the pecking order I imagine. It's more likely that remaining cards would be sold off to pay large creditors, rather than individuals......but doesn't mj have a massive in stake in UD? A couple of $m here or there to keep the doors open is nothing...probably just duck out to the car and get it from his ash tray!

Way behind the times they are getting sued every second week, this one is amusing http://cconnect.s3.amazonaws.com/wp...McWilliam-Deposition-Abdul-Jabbar-3-12-12.pdf

ROFLMAO that is GOLD, you really should read the witness ( mcwilliams) deposition ( from around page 21)

lol, he claims he cant read,
whe asked what he does ( for a job) he answers "I wake up."

when asked "do you have a position within the UD company?" answer, "yeah when i wake up"

after readin thru it, yeah me thinks as long as that tool has any form of control or representation of the company they have no chance of lasting much longer.
