Since coming back into the hobby around 6-7 months ago ive looked at many things to collect and god knows how many times ive thought about collecting
a player
a set
a team
Even now im over the whole legends 1 auto/1 patch thing.
Busting boxes/selling and buying is what i love

As i dont really watch any nba i guess i fail to make any connection with the recent group of players...
Anything out of a pack..short of jordan/magic gets the..its ok nod !!

Any tips..something different to revive the passion !!

I've had the same thing mate, just go with the flow I say.

Complete a set, sell it, bust some boxes, keep some sell some, it's all good whatever keeps you interested I reckon!

I don't buy any new stuff. When I'm not busting 1994-95 boxes I buy old Chrome, Finest and boxes of anything shiny. I just enjoy the thrill of refractors coming out of a pack etc

Of course pulling a nice Jordan or G Hill is cool too!

That's the beauty of this hobby. You can buy and collect whatever the heck you want! :)

Cheers gents...i envy these guys that collect 1 player and stick with it regardless of any factors.
I wish its the sort of passion i could adopt

Try completing a master set!!! I mean the full base, inserts, subsets etc! Parallels too if you want to go nuts.

I just love it because it reminds me of the days when getting that unnumbered insert was an awesome feeling. I find it makes me appreciate the smaller things and I don't need a Patch/auto /5 to get excited!

Also, I read the back of all of tw cards and find out a lot of cool facts and stats.

If Your happy with what your Doing than keep doing it until You Get Bored. Because once you get bored than you need to approach it a different way. You don't have to collect a certain player to enjoy it, you can collect patches and autographs and even enjoy more.

The Main players you can relate to is Kobe and LeBron (because they are great players bit like MJ was when he played but MJ is better than them) but i know how you feel about them because you think they are MJ Wannabes:lol:

Thats why its fun to watch some of the Young guys, Because you get to see the potential and thats one way to collect. Go with a young player you like and keep building a collection on him, you will either strike or miss. But someone like you who spends a lot is more Suited To Kevin Durant his Prices are high and His good and you will get value for money in his cards no doubt. Most of all you won't be dissapointed

ps. I don't Know think i know what i was talking about:blink:

Try something where you have an achievable target in sight? But it also looks nice too. I'm collecting the Classics master set and it's not too hard and you know how many cards you need as well. For player PCs if you're trying to collect everything sometimes you get disillusioned because there will be no end in sight or you're still missing 700 cards after amassing 100 + Panini keeps producing more shit of Channing!

Player collecting is great, but i did get a bit uninterested after a few months.....just to many friggen cards to collect.
Ive changed and gone to buying/trading for patches.
Only way i can sort of keep the trade bait up is to bust some boxes now and then or join live breaks.
You will find something that makes you happy mate just keep trying.

Appreciate the feedback guys....im pretty sure im going to sell of nearly all my pc.
Some will stay...jordan/lebron/magic/kobe autos
Was leaning towards the 2 mjs..thanks to harshas sweet sig...but dont feel right

My biggest thrill has always been player collecting, as it peaks my interest the most and I love being on the hunt for new and illusive cards.

I suggest maybe doing some light research (eg reading scouting reports, watch some highlights on youtube) of some of young prospect and pick a player that fits the style of game you enjoy. I get enjoyment out of checking their stats daily and watching them progress, and it's interesting to watch their cards fluctuate as the season progresses.

Good luck on finding something to ignite the passion again anyway!

Totally Agree... Nothing better than starting a PC in a rookie season and following them through the season watching prices rise and fall, rise and fall. And the thrill of seeing that elusive /25, /10, /5, /1 come available is second to none.

that gets expensive, even for my 08-09 fleer set haha (2cards to go and I lost track of the$$$)

Still have the same challenge with modern sets. Enjoy the thrill of busting packs but haven't really fixated on a single set to collect. A tougher road (and potentially the challenge you don't want) is to put together a historic set either graded or ungraded. I'm working on 61-62 Fleer, 69-70 Topps (my birth year/season) and 86-87 Fleer. Definitely a grind but plenty of satisfaction when you find a tough piece of the puzzle

I have the soloution to all your problems Steve........ Watch a bloddy NBA game!!!!!!! See who appeals to you who's game you like etc you don't have to make a decision straight away. Or you could always collect Pippen to piss slobby off?

That is what I was going to suggest.......trouble is;

I think if Steve watched the NBA he may develop a passion for a particular player but the fact that he doesn't even support a NBA team makes it hard to find someone that he is passionate about. I have found my passion for the NBA has returned just by joinging the OCT NBA Tipping Comp so I guess at the end of the day it comes down to what you enjoy! If you enjoy busting boxes selling them off and busting more then do that......I know that was what I was doing for a while there and it WAS fun :D
