For those gamers looking to get in on the action...

Prices are obviously $US, but I'm sure we'll see the same price changes here in Oz.

LOS ANGELES - Microsoft Corp, plans to cut the price of its best-selling Xbox 360 Pro model by $50, to $299 in the next few weeks, the Hollywood Reporter reported citing anonymous sources.

(MSNBC is a joint Microsoft - NBC Universal venture.)

The price cut for the Xbox 360 model with the 20 gigabyte hard drive will come before the video game industry's biggest trade show, E3, taking place in Los Angeles on July 15-17, the report said.

I'm not a big gamer, but that's bound to put added pressure on Sony's PS3. Sony revealed that it is losing billions of dollars on its PS3 sales due to increased production costs and selling each unit for below what the R&D and costs are.

IMO, the PlayStation consoles has been overpriced since they came out.

Go back to Sony PlayStation (first one).

A mate of mine brought one and 2 games for $1500!

The the PS2, I paid about $1400 for the console and 2 games + steering wheel package.

Then the PS3 came out, what was that, $1,000 straight up?

Microsoft have OWNED Sony since they came onto the market, people don't want to pay out the arse for entertainment, look at the Wii. ****ting all over the lot of them!

Hopefully with this/these price drops, they might encourage more sales.

its always been like that. consoles the companies take a hit on, as they lose money. its the games, which cost bugger all to produce, where they make their dough back.

I wouldn't say it costs bugger all, most of these games have hours and hours of CGI animation which is costly but your right, the follow up on the sales of games have always been the money maker. But with Microsoft further discounting the Xbox360, PS3's already discounted console prices will be nullified and they stand to lose even more market share.

looking at future value and userability, the 360 should be cheaper again, the reason, blue ray has won the war against high definiton and for this reason the PS3 is a far better option for the future as a gaming tool and movie player, i believe for this reason the 360 should really drop in the arse in price, i surprised it has taken this long for this to happen, lets hope we see the 360s at better than value for money prices!

At the moment I'm tossig up between the 360 and a PS3, with the Wii falling out of the fight because it's only really fun when you've got other people around. Cheapest I can find a PS3 for is on play asia website for $449US for the 40gb version. The only negative is it can't play PS2 games and only region coded blu ray movies, it plays any type of PS3 games though. And defniately think the 360 is still too over priced.

Chip-modding can solve that fairly easily, I would have thought. You might have to do some research on that though and the price as well.

I have the original Xbox too, mine's chipped. Play all sorts of stuff on that.

Just havent worked out how to get PS2 or PSP games on it (I'm sure you can some how).

360 is mod-able, but can't play it on live after that.

Big W has the "core" 360 console for less than $300 ATM (Toy Sale)...

Blu Ray is a positive for the PS3...but we all know 360 has the online gaming down pat!! What's more important..?

I've got a bunch of N64 games SNES games on my x-box, not sure how to do it as my bro did it. It's awesome playing Goldeneye, Mario Brothers and Mario Kart! Got an emulator with every NES game ever released, but haven't tried to transfer it to the X-box yet! Can anyone say Double Dragon III! :D

hopfully the ps3 will drop to that price, then I will for sure get one

You'll be waiting a while for a PS3 to drop to anywhere near that sort of a price...although Sony are giving them away free here in Australia this month (by redemption) with sales of their full HD Bravia LCD's at the moment...I'm SOOOOOO TEMPTED!!!

Oooh...How much does a Sony Bravia cost? What size is the minimum you can get?

You can check at the Sony website, it is pretty much all of the Full HD range. The base set (and what I would probably want to get) is the 40 inch V series, which retails for about 2399, but can be had for about $1800. Good Guys catalogue this week has this model at $1799, and JB HiFi have 10% off all LCD's this week....I couldn't see this model at the couple of stores I looked in though, not sure if they will get it in for this promotion.

The 40gb versions are selling on ebay for about $600 so even if you didn't want the PS3 and "needed" to get a new LCD TV and wanted to sell the console, it would mean effectively paying $1200 :D i.e 30% off!

Yep, that's pretty much the ball game! That is not bad at all for a 40" Sony Bravia Full HD unit (but I would struggle to let go of the PS3!).

I've got a **** load of roms, but havent moved them over to my Mod-Box yet.

I loved playing DD3 years ago, when I got into Emulating, I finished it! Could never get passed the Marion in the end, she kept whooping me.

Thank god for Save State & Reload State!!!! :worthy:

I downloaded a 1.4GB file to burn to DVD which basically when you fire up the Mod-Box, it formats it, and creates all partitions/drives, and installs all aps, and emulators, the lot!

Just need to fill up my 200GB drive now!

Damn, some serious geek talk going on in here :D

Sweet! I'm getting my 360 when I go to bali at the start of next month so hopefully the prices will have dropped there. At the moment it's $500 for the basic model chipped up and $7 a game.
Can't wait to get xbox live for Halo
