Worlds most expensive atari 2600 game sells on ebay

why is it worth $31 million it is just a game where there are only 13 known copies maybe 100 thousand but 31 mil

yer it is because it is rare.

I still got a ****load of old NES and SEGA games that are worth a bit now. Not as outrages as that though since none are really that rare.

wow, i didn't know there was a whole like collector culture/forum thing for old atari games  wow, just wow, suppose they'd read some of our jargon here and go WTF!

some interesting reading in there though, came across a linked older thread where some newbie came in asking about games if they were rare or not, people were skeptical etc, then they ended up sending it to someone for free! weird stuff!

Help, are any of these rare ? - AtariAge Forums - Page 7

have a read if interested!

someone on that forum has decided to list their copy of Air Raid - copy has no box, will be interesting to see what it goes for. If it gets as much publicity as the other (CNN, MTV etc) it could be a lot, but not near the other one with the box!

AIR RAID CARTRIDGE VERY RARE ATARI 2600 GAME R10 - eBay (item 300417876289 end time Apr-24-10 19:20:32 PDT)

I've just waded through 60 pages of this atariage forum, and it's getting intriguing!
now there's some guy on there who's dad may have made the molds for the actual Air Raid game - well the company that asked for the samples and then took off.

Will be interesting from a old school nerd point of view how this turns out

I was just reading through the Atari forum thread linked to the auction - Incredible!! Another whole new world of massive nerds......just like us!!!!

The skepticism is amusing, and I LOVE that the supernerd who checked out the box on behalf of the site is named Albert! Sorry to all the Alberts out there, but it would be right up there as far as the perfect name for the kingpin on the Atari superforum site... :D

Hilarious post:

"You forgot to mention that Albert was involved in the Jr. Pac-man prototype hoax for the Atari 7800 last year.

That means Albert can't be trusted for sure around April Fools Day when it comes to discoveries."

LOL!!!

These guys are just as passionate about Atari as we all are about cards - and they have finally unearthed their much-dreamed about holy grail! Gotta love the enthusiasm - and goes to show how much of a holy grail item this is that 90% of them still didn't believe it was authentic!!

Thanks for posting this thread, it has been a great read.

haha nerds like us. This is why I can never have expensive BBall cards. A lot of my money goes towards games.

Why the **** was there only that many of them...

apparently the company - mena vision, asked for prototypes to be made, then, not sure how long after, they took off and didn't pay people they owed money too. no one has come forward as to working for that company either
also, apparently, it's a totally **** game, it's the story and the myth behind it
