Great thread idea mate!

David Robinson (Spurs) - such a wonderful and varied life he has already led: United States Navy, a 14-year NBA career and of course his philanthropic work off-court. A model professional and citizen. He would probably inspire me to get off my arse and contribute to my community.

Matthew Dellavedova (Cavs/Bucks) - from afar he seems like just a happy, humble, team-oriented bloke. You can take the boy out of Maryborough....
My kind of sporting role model, a throwback to sport as I knew it growing up. He looks like he has a tremendous work ethic and I guess to have made it as far as he has, also be extremely disciplined.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson (Lakers): The boundless energy and excitement and happiness that Magic brings to anything he touches is really inspiring. He was probably the first "name" I fixated on when I started learning about the history of the NBA. There is a slight parallel between the Lakers/Celtics rivalry in the 1980's with that of my AFL team Hawthorn and their hostile encounters with Essendon in the same decade. Imagine knowing that you were "the" key to your team winning the playoffs, and the pressure that would come with.

I reckon my 3 would be:

1) Michael Jordan....the greatest of all time.....and would certainly have some stories....and I'd make him pick up the bill.

2) Larry Bird.......greatest trash talker of all time.....would keep Jordan in line at dinner.

3) Wilt Chamberlain.......the stories this guy would have.....well they would be interesting to hear...

Cheers
Matt

for me -

1. Michael Jordan - Would have to be the :goat:. Can't even imagine what the teenage me would think about having dinner with the greatest.

2. Charles Barkley - opinionated/brash would tell a great story (even if embellished) and would wind the night up with cigars, poker and large amounts of betting with him and MJ (yes they have reconciled)

3. Phil Jackson - The zenmaster. I love everything that he has done as a player and moreso as a coach. The approach he brought to coaching and the way he managed the greatests (MJ, Kobe, shaq), the strangests (Rodman, Artest) plus everyone in between.

Wow, this would be fun.

Ah man, this is tough.

As much as Jordan was how it all began for me, I'd have to go.

D. Robinson of course. Just seems like a fantastic role model and great guy from everything I've seen. Oh and he could play.

Penny Hardaway. This guy was the 90s for me.

Tim Duncan. I would love to pick his brain. He's like a silent assassin.

I have social anxiety so even if I had them there, I probably wouldn't talk much or know how to act...

I'd probably choose Mitch Richmond and Tim Hardaway, as they were the first two players I collected (and being former teammates they'd surely get along well) and also Shaq, because I loved him in Orlando but also then I could ask him if he actually signed his Panini cards....
