I know that @Scotty_WCE (and others) have been trying to promote the forum, by starting up some threads to promote discussion.

Your point about NRL people giving away cards? I don't think I've seen any AFL member start a thread offering up cards (now there probably isn't in the NRL area too but it is about changing the culture)

We got a case share happening and would love for @Mr Paparazzi to run these in the future - in fact the site even gave away a box to try and encourage more activity. Which was one of the requests from this thread.

Happy to take suggestions on board, but I think this thread is not really promoting the good culture of the AFL area that you want to promote. You, the members, are the ones who can change that culture.

I would like to add to this, in regard to free cards. I recently offered someone on here free AFL cards, all they had to do was pm me there address.

Let's just say...I still have the cards, why ? They were free ! No postage ! No cost to them what so ever...........and I still have the cards.

Good luck trying to work that one out.....I still can't.

You try to do the right thing & someone sh*ts on you, then you tell others & they sh*t all over you as well.

So why should I respond to your new improve posts ? So someone can take a sh*t on me ? I'm a card collector not a toilet.

@Quiksilver - maybe I misread or misunderstood the post from @stevic, but I read at as him expressing surprise that your offer of free cards wasn't followed through, not that he was having a crack at you or taking the piss out of you.

This might be completely left-field or maybe even hair-brained.....maybe the other forums create more discussion because of the number of products/releases/variety in the respective markets. This is not a knock on Select (for example) as the popularity of the Honours release here probably surprised a lot of us but if for example I look for NBA, Soccer or even NRL products released in 2014 there is a quite a lot to choose from. Again, just a theory....and my theories are tracking as well as my footy tipping!

mate what are you on about im saying that as im in shock that people didn't take you up on your offer what do they want you giving free cards
no shot at all actually surprised you took it as one

It's pretty even between NRL and AFL, just this year:

NRL: Traders, Elite, Powerplay, SoO set and probably a Premiers set

AFL: Champions, Honors, Teamcoach, Carlton 150th Album/Tin, and a Premiers set and possible Future Force yet to come.

AFL also had some stand alone auto cards sold direct from Select.

Interesting discussion. When I first joined the site back in 2011, there was a definitely a lot of discussion and excitement in regards to threads and trading/buying, but I have noticed it slowly fluctuate in recent times. Probably the busiest I have seen the AFL section in regards to discussion and trade activity, was during the 2012 Draft Prospects release. IMO, people lost a bit of interest in what was available to collect recently, but that has definitely changed as we've been lucky enough to have up to 5 product releases in the last 2 years. Maybe people have lost interest to collect? I think we see this across any hobby, so I don't think it's fair to blame the product releases.

My thoughts on why people have migrated to the other site is because there seems to be less clutter in terms of buy/trade threads, and possibly less kids. I remember there was a period where certain members disregarded site rules and kept posting and bumping threads that were over 3 years old! After a while you can't be bothered having to scroll through all the irrelevant threads that have been brought up again. Also, it appears to be easier to deal with members on the other site as everyone is familiar with each other and well known, having met face to face at card shows etc. Trouble makers get caught out a lot more over there and are easier to avoid. That being said, I recommend using both sites as I've had a lot of good deals and found out a lot about the hobby/industry.

Ultimately it comes down to the members who have to encourage good discussion and excitement. We hear a lot about the negative stuff, but it also helps if we can mention the positives as well. For example, I recently caught up with @GoMoto , and we were able to make a trade where we both were happy with the cards, and it was easily done with minimal fuss. Those sort of interactions are what make this site great.

i am starting to get sick and tired of users on here asking me to get them stuff and then when you get it they dont respond to your messages.
especially when they agree to trade something and then when u get it, nothing.
Annoying.

I am sorry, after reading it again today I see what you were saying. Was having a really bad day shouldn't have taken it out on someone else. Once again I apologize for my misunderstanding.

If you guys think it's hard being an afl card collecter you should try collecting nba cards, atleast you can buy boxs or even packs of cards, if I want nba I have to ship them in by box, I can only wish for the return if nba cards in the shops

Thought this needs a bump. There are too many new members lately who are bumping old threads, not reading site rules in regards to trading and creating new threads which are incoherent and unnecessary.

one in particular who really needs addressing as tbh all i see when i go on this site is his posts or bumped threads. It has actually turned me off the site in recent times as i just cant be bothered going through all the threads to find one that actually makes sense or is constructive!!

But on a more positive note i have come up with a great new concept that i will start in coming days that i really think will start to rebuild the sense of community on the site. Stay tuned as i have no internet atm so am waiting to get time on a computer to get it up and going but it requires Members to look past their own collections and go out of their way to help someone elses collection. After all karma goes around and good deeds are always rewarded eventually.
