Thats a sensational hit!! One of the Best Quad tags you could have hit, I think!
Without trying to sound like a smart ass..... Patch = Multiple color, from lettering or the like, Swatch = The single color windows on most GU cards!

All the help with information like that I'll take. Haven't seen or noticed people saying Swatch much before and I certainly didn't know the difference between them card wise, so thanks a bunch.

Patches normally are multi colours with stitching or piping like aussiemjfreak mentioned before but you can get ordinary one colour patches which are of a different material to GU cards (you can still get multicoloured GU cards with pinstripes for example). With Panini products they normally have the word 'prime' written somewhere on the card which is basically meant to indicate that it's a 'patch'. Although with your good luck I'd stick to the SP products! Awesome card - and I have to say it was looking pretty average until the hit! Great way to get back into the hobby!
