Things that grind your gears (card related only)

What grinds my gears is that you have some very special people within the industry...... one in particular who is getting a little too big for their very small boots!

While this doesn't impact on me at all and have no dog in this fight......this one specific person is actively inciting arguments with multiple people (very senior people within the industry - some 25+ year veterans and some with a lot of industry power - the people you don't want to piss off).

So coming across as someone who needs to take their meds isn't a good look and maybe they need to tone down thier behaviour and ego before it gets them in real strife.

This one person has made such an effect that I know of 2 people who have engaged lawyers to investigate possible legal action for some comments which have been posted.

Fun times to be a spectator!

The old tale of going from Rooster one day to a feather duster the next seems appropriate in this instance.

Another thing that grinds my gears:
Select not stocking Certified at news agencies this year.
I swear there is no Certified within 30 minutes of me this year

On this I agree, I feel it was very short sighted of them to do this,
wonder whether or not SW had anything to do with this ?

I have an issue which has just happened again. This has probably only happened 2 or 3 times in my years of collecting but far out it grinds my gears. I'll give you the run down.
Agreed to a price with a collector for a card which isn't for sale very often. But wanted photos of the card which was agreed my both parties. The seller was in the middle of a move or something so said they needed a week or so to get pictures, which i was happy with. Waited about 2 weeks or more and got a heap of pictures of other nice cards, but not the one i wanted. Just figured they were still looking for it so just commented how nice the cards were. Didn't want to seem pushy so just waited. Then a week or 2 later spotted a similar card on eBay so reminded the seller i was still waiting for pictures. To which i got a reply something like "It's on eBay, i sent you pictures but you didn't say anything about it so it's now listed for auction". I scrolled back and sure enough they hadn't sent any pictures of the card i wanted, just the others that i couldn't afford after committing to this other card. I pointed out they hadn't sent me any pictures of the card we agreed on and to look back up and check for themselves. Now if that was me and i realised I'd forgotten to send them and it was my mistake I'd end the auction and sell like we had agreed as that was the deal. But after a few heated comments back and forth it was clear the seller had made the error but wasn't interested in owning up to the error and fixing it so i deleted the conversation and didn't reply.
How incredibly frustrating when something is agreed on and then not followed through. To make it worse never even got an apology for not doing what we had agreed on.
End rant lol.

Must say I agree with anyone who's had the experience of a collector advising they want a high end card that's seldom for sale and although it's a part of your PC you're happy to let it go and help them out if they're prepared to pay the right price yet alone pay more than what you did for it. The collector eventually PM's you back bargaining you if you can do a better price than what you've initially negotiated because it's apparently for their kid (IE kid's birthday or Christmas present and top of their list). Bottom line is that doesn't cut it to make a $200 card be sold for less than a third of the rock bottom price just because your kid isn't old enough to earn some hard earned cash in an adult income! Maybe you should encourage to chase kids $15 higher ends instead that I could barely reach when I was his age lol

Saw another thing today that really grinds my gears........self proclaimed people of worship who operate out of their mums basement breaking down boxes comparing their box busting prices to someone who runs a full blown physical card shop. Not real smart these people.

Of course someone who breaks boxes in their underwear in their mums dodgy basement can offer a slightly cheaper price on box breaks when they aren't covering things like:

- Rent
- Wages
- Insurance
- Electricity
- Utilities etc, etc, etc

Why do you think there are only a handful of shops out there who run reputable operations like Cherry Collectables, Jaja's collectables etc. its because the overheads are very expensive and make it a tough job to operate a physical shop and stay profitable.

But again, these people comparing apples to watermelons aren't real bright and its sort of sad in a way that some people feel so inadequate about what they are doing that they have to try and bring others down to make themselves feel a bigger better more virtuous person battling it out for the poor "little" man.

Cheers
Matt

Think Maybe this is better left on a person to person basis. Bringing in others who do not have the full story from both sides is never going to end well.

I would suggest you are seeing it from one side and him the other so best to take it up with them and let other collectors make up their minds if it really concerns them

And for what it's worth the argument is none of my business and you are free to vent your anger however you like. I just know how these word sleeves go and don't want either to fall into that trap

As I have said before I have no dog in this fight, I just like people being made aware of some of the BS stuff that gets thrown around out there..... especially when it’s denigrating some really good people in the hobby industry.

The comments about sticky tape made me laugh so hard - but only because its so true! The number of packages I get with cards that have been sticky taped up to hell and back is incredible. In some cases it would be easier to escape from Alcatraz than unwrap the tape.

However, every now and then there are those thoughtful souls who tape up the cards with masking tape, which makes it so much easier to unpack! Honestly the rules of the site should be updated to mandate the use of masking tape.

:lol::lol: Yep, so true.

I got a new one for everyone.

New members that pop up on the site with cards for sale.

No prices, just this make me an offer bullshit.

They then contact you, telling you they have a card you need and it’s for sale, you ask how much and then they proceed to say make an offer.

You make an offer and then instead of countering if they feel it’s too low they say it’s not enough.

Not I’m sorry but that’s not enough I was looking for this....Nup just not enough.

If they know what they want why the hell do I have to play this merry go round of bullshit!!!

Why can’t they just tell me how much?

I’ll tell you why, because they are trying to get every last penny they can for the card and hope you’re dumb enough to pay more than what they actually want.

Jesus h Christ.

Yes nothing worse than make an offer posts. Saves everyone a lot of time to just list prices and then if it's over what we are willing to pay we just won't message hahah cuts out all the crap in the middle.

Only reason anyone does make an offer is to try and get an offer over what they want lol

But each to their own and it's their sale thread I guess. And probably partly our fault as if we don't want to deal with make an offer threads we just should stop making offers haha easier said than done when you want a card
.

It’s fishing Daniel and I bloody hate it. It’s one thing to say make me an offer, fair enough but to not counter the offer if you don’t like it or at least have a dialogue towards finding a price is just wasting my bloody time.

I guess the moral of the story is if you want to sell a card but not necessarily, then perhaps then consider not selling it unless you are prepared to realise most aren't going to be prepared to pay as much as you're looking for yet alone even more so. If others say you are dreaming upon asking for a price then so be it

Only even been one time I've got close to losing my cool.

Multiple cards in a single toploader, it happens quiet frequently and I let it slide but this one pressed the wrong button.

Two supremacy signature cards in a single toploader!

I paid good money for them and the dumbass wanted to cheap out on me!! Never buying from him again, don't care what cards he has.
