The OFFICIAL Mavs/Spurs series thread!!!

geez.. your writing off the spurs easy.. all of you.. they've been in worse positions before and come out of it, yet you think this ones all over..

i'd have to say, as much as i hate the spurs, your really talking up the mavs.. i mean, your over rating them.. j howard is good, but he's not too consistant.. and dampier, the guy is a hack yet you think he's going to stop the spurs somehow.. we'll see.. spurs will go down game 3, but watch them take the series from there on

I'm not writing Spurs out, but this series will go to 6 or 7 games. FACT.

I'm not writing the Spurs off, but I'm definately talking up the Mavs. I have to.

As for Jimbo's comment on Terry being more offensively minded than Nash... WTF... If there's a better offensively minded player in the NBA please stand up....

Terry is no where as good as Nash, never was, never will be. Nash' lost has caused the likes of Dirk, Howard, and Stackhouse to all step up. That's what a team does when they lose good players.

Finley wasnt providing a punch that the Mavs needed. He's gone from a starter near 20ppg, to a Benched player with about 8ppg... Says a lot.

Dampier's not gonna stop the Spurs, but he'll hurt them on the boards. As will Diop.

If Josh Howard continues to spark and shine like he did in Game 2, Bruce Bowen will have a new player to guard, forcing Duncan/Horry to defend Dirk. Which will really hurt the Spurs.

All I can say is look for Games 3 & 4 to decide the series....

i agree with jimbo insofar as terry is definitely a shoot first pass second PG whereas Nash is the opposite. and nash ususally gets as much if not more points than jet anyway

Correction- Finley averaged close to 11 ppg this season OFF THE BENCH.

His last season in Dallas he still put up nearly 16 ppg, and it's not because he lacked when they needed him. Dirk evolved from being a 16 ppg scorer to a 26 ppg scorer and Nash scored 17 a game as well. While Dirk was young and inexperienced Finely was going off for 20+ as Dirk increased they started going less to Finley and more plays were run for Dirk. Yes, Finley is getting old but he's capable of still 16-17 ppg a game, not 8 ppg.

Sounds like Jims got a bit upset on that....

Please re-read my post, and you'll notice that I was saying that Nash is better than Terry on offensive. His skills on offence are what has won him the MVP last 2 seasons. Terry's never been offensively minded as far as getting his team involved, he shoots more than he should, but then agian, that's his job according to Avery.

As for Finley, how different is an "ABOUT 8ppg" to an "close to 11ppg".... 3 f-cking points, and then you say "OFF THE BENCH"... so what does "benched" mean Jimbo??? Same thing I woulda thought.

Go Mavs Game 3.... :D

Finley is a passenger, he chose the easy way by signing with the spurs.

Although now I'm glad he did, he wouldn't have been any better for phoenix than house, barbosa and bell have been this year.

I dont know.. nash could bring out the best in finley.. but from what we've seen he just hangs around waiting for an easy shot.. not the finley we know.. can he still dunk (sarcastic but serious q?)

he can still throw down but with 7mins per game he's sold his soul for a title and I pray to the lord he don't get it!!

yeah finlwy gets up and puts a few down when needed, he just isnt dunking on people of windmils etc hehe

He can, but he used to be one of the elite SG's in the league, a 3-time all-star, not anymore..

at this stage of his career finley is just a role player, he can be called upon to sub for 10-15 mins a game and shoot some J's thats about it. still valuable and fits in well with the other bench player shooters like barry, van exel, horry etc. thats a great, experienced bench right there.
