The Official BOSTON CELTICS thread

Thats a great read! I think that the article got it right, plenty depends on KG's knee. But I think a lot of their season will also depend on Rondo's performance.

Chadjaja - as much as I take your Perk loving comments with a grain of salt I do listen and for u to rate this team the best since '86 is a bold statement....

I think there are a lot of positives and few if's for this year...

- Perk is thinner and if as u say he's still strong then this just means faster feet which is all good...as KG ages it is important he plays more of a leading role defensively...

- Marquis Daniels has had a good preseason - he seems to be smart from what I've read and if he can come off the bench with 10-4-4 a game then it's all good....

- BBD needs to keep up his development...

- Sheed has slotted in good as gold - great to see - only worry is if he falls in love with the 3 TOO much - He and KG need to pay attention to getting post up pts. Perk is ion the improve here too which is great....

- I heard Ray Allen's ankle is better than it's been in 2 years so that could be why he's been so impressive in the preseason...I have Sheed and Ray in fantasy - LIGHT IT UP BOYS!!

I think the only concerns are....

- KG's knee obviously...

- Rondo's contract - if he's gonna be a sulker there could be problems - I'll never forget Spree and Cassell mailing in 04-05 with contract negotiations over their heads...T'wolves went from West conf finals to no playoffs because Spree and Cassell sulked like f$%^#n babies - slightly different situation but we know Rondo is moody..

We may find the C's need a back up pg still - Chad, having seen a total of NO preseason games but checking out the box score, how is Hudson going? - he's had better numbers than Giddens but more putting up pts than assists....

3. Boston Celtics

BIOLOGY — B-minus
No way around it: The Celtics are old. Ray Allen is 34, Kevin Garnett, 33, Paul Pierce, 32, and Rasheed Wallace, 35. But the bigger deal is KG's knee. Preseason reviews were mixed. Some saw a limp, others saw that old explosiveness.

CHEMISTRY — A-minus
How does a guy who averages nearly a triple-double in the playoffs end up on the block? Meet Rajon Rondo, a talented headache where coach Doc Rivers needs a steady linchpin.

ECONOMICS — B-plus
If the Celtics don't look like contenders by the break, they may try to unload Allen. There will be takers because he's in the last year of his deal.

HISTORY — A
The original Big Three pocketed three titles. Shouldn't the remixed version collect at least two?

MATH — B-plus
Boston trailed only Phoenix in True Shooting last season but was second to last in Turnover Rate. Sheed will help the latter. The other new guy, Marquis Daniels, won't.

OVERALL GRADE: A-minus

Big Baby being a big baby?

Is SOO SOOOO disappointing when these things happen OFF court. This REALLY hurts our front court depth and Davis is a hard match up for the Cavs as he has proved in the past.

Glen Davis has suffered a right thumb injury and could be lost to the Celtics for a significant period of time.

He underwent X-rays today and will have to get further tests to determine the full extend of the dame. Surgery could be required.

According to sources, this was a non-basketball injury. It happened Sunday night when he got into an altercation with a friend, a former teammate, who was visiting from Louisiana.

Davis was reportedly defending himself.

Doc Rivers said after today that he was unaware of the circumstances, but sources said the club has been fully apprised of the situation.

As expected, the Celts are not pleased. Davis is said to be extremely upset, too.

Ahhh I forgot about that....

Hudson is a find and expect him to spend more time in green and on court than JR will or what Starbury got. At this point I doubt we send him to the D league as he looks to have the skills to play back up time. A decent shot on him, better ball handling skills than House so less susceptible to back court pressure and a decent basketball IQ. His D is solid enough for Doc to trust him and on this squad thats the key to court time. Can play at 2 spot imo with Rondo in a run and gun squad too. Think a Tony Delk type of player and role. Could be a real find. Its far too early to tell but its better to show something than just talk potential.

How Baby's injury effects his role now and roster spot is key now. Bill Walker now finds himself in the key position to replace Baby and fight for the roster spot.

Cheers for that - Tony Delk would do nicely!!!

Spewing about BBD, S$%^ happens though - just hope someone steps up...more minutes for Sheed I guess

I already have the 2010-1011 champs t shirt on pre order :-D

And for those that just tune into this thread today for the first time due to the season opener game.

Welcome to Ozcards most posted in sports thread on the site :thumbsup::D

Big loss to the rotation today with Davis out but less headaches for Doc as far as rotations. His rotations as usual will interest me the most, Doc is always skating on thin ice with me as he 'runs' the team..

A win today in Cleveland would be a great start to the year send a message to the league :v: We get our first look at the ancient Shaq in Cavs colours and how he changes they way they play. Perk has a big enough body to handle that and the help out D of KG certainly helps. Rondo on Mo will be great to watch and as usual Ray is the odd man out for the Cavs to try to match up on. D wins the game today and the key for us is the contribution to D that Williams, Wallace and Daniels bring today

In other news.

Im actually happy with that, it basically makes this a contract year for Rondo as we heavily push for another title and look for him to lead us there. Ball is in his court to show he justifies his demands for a large near max contract. If he does play well enough to ask for it look for Pierce and/or Allen to take HUGE pay cuts just to stay Celtics and play their careers out in green. Pierce can opt out at the end of the year and its hard to see him leaving now. Both Ray and Pierce would of made about 150M each by then so a few million shouldn't really be a problem to their families.

I hope you guys are all gearing up for a huge loss against the Cavs today :D

Some inter-family rivalry for the first game of the season, me (Cavs fan) vs my brother (Celtics fan).

It's on :goat:

Yeah, I just read that Big Baby injury story... And it should make Doc's time easier regarding his rotations...

Goodluck with the game for both of us!

Hope you're right about Rondo mate, in that he plays to impress rather than sulk because he didn't get what he wanted...

Seems he won't be signed before the deadline - the C's offering $45 mill for 5 and he wants $55-60 mill....by my reckoning they should agree at about $52 mill - man I'm in the wrong profession- should be a negotiator....the UN needs me!!!

No offense to Rondo, but does 10 million really matter?

Its not like he wont be able to feed his family is he doesn't get the contract his after, its basically how many houses and sports cars he can get with his money...

I think its more about standing and it puts him in the top five PG's of the league. Not saying that 10M isn't a lot as it buys a fair bit and Rondo hasn't made big bucks yet but he is still only 23 years old lets not forget. Championship PG's get contracts and are always in demand in their vet years as compared to other PG's aging that get no love. I doubt Rondo turns into that locker room type of PG but anything can happen in 10 years.

Yeah what he said LOL

As I said Ray is the odd man out the Cavs can't match up to and its showing, Ray has schooled the Cavs so far from the 3pt line, pot and slashing.

The crowd has been QUIET since the 8 min mark of the first! We have closed it down and got our offense up and running. Our second unit looks great even with no BBD.

Pretty darn happy we have gone from a 14pt deficit in the first to a 6pt lead at the half based on some real good ball at both ends. Sure there are some match ups on the defensive end that the Cavs have looked to and gone to but not much from them and forced to use the entire shot clock on most possessions.

Daniels looks great out there and his D has been good and his slashing play ok. Williams looks a little lost in the O transition and Sheed has stretched the D as predicted and done a decent effort on the defensive boards.

Rondo needs to be aggressive AND smart, that block by Bron was only because Rondo didn't play the smart option on the play.

Lots of rest for the starters and lots of options. Keep the crowd out of this and we look good.

Yeah been really good so far, i was worried at the start there when they had like 12 points only 3 mins in lol but yeah...im glad NBA IS BACK!!!
