The Official BOSTON CELTICS thread

and we see the importance of KG... ahh the great man was sorely missed!

As I think it was Reggie who said it, KG not only is solid on court, rebounds, scoring an defence, but he's their emotional leader and was definetly sorely missed. Can't take away from the Magic though who puniched the c's from the three and was also without their All star gaurd.

Just got on line to check the result -looks a bit fishy watching it in class....

Congrats to the Magic - looks like they finally worked out how to hold a lead. 13-21 from 3 doesn't hurt either....

A pretty good effort by the Celts playing the last part of the year and playoffs without their big ticket player. Still have two or three good tilts at the Finals left in them I'd say.

Too bad for the Celts.

The better team won on the day, and the series no doubt. Now hopefully the Celtics fans won't start talking about how badly they missed KG and speculating that they would have been able to go all the way with KG (even if that is a high possibility).

Time for the East to meet its new beasts. Cleveland and Orlando.

I think they could've got through Orlando but no-one will stop the cavs i think. good luck to em, and to us next year, hopefully with a full strength team

KG wasnt missed, they managed to beat out Chicago. I doubt KG would have done a better job than K-Perk did on Dwight.

WTF?? That's a ridiculous statement. Are u having a laugh??? They managed to beat out Chicago in about 8 games:blink:

Perk woulda marked Dwight even with KG so KG woulda floated around making sure Hedo's drives to the hoop ended with a blk, and also woulda shut down Lewis when required as well as giving the C's more post game
- there's no way Orlando beats us if he was playing. It's just life, injuries happen. Hopefuly the C's will be better for it.
Personally I think the Cavs woulda beaten us in the conf finals but u never know.....

No, I'm serious.
Looking back through the year, in their 4 games they played each other.

1/12/08 - W 107-88
KG had 15 pts, 9 rebs, 1 stl in 35 mins.
Hedo had 19, Lewis dropped 30 & Dwight had 14 pts, 15 rebs & 4 blks.
Considering Allen & Pierce combined for 45 & Rondo with 16, I don't think KG had much of an impact there.

22/1/09 - W 90-80
KG had 16 pts, 5 rebs, 1 stl & 1 ast in 36 mins.
Hedo with 22, Lewis with 20 & Dwight with 11 & 11 with 4 blks.
Peirce with 27

Are you catching on yet????

8/3/09 - L 86-79
No KG.
Perkins with 10 pts, 8 rebs, 1 blk & 1 ast.
Yet Hedo went for only 16 pts & Lewis on only 15.
Dwight had 18, 15 & 5.
Allen & Pierce combined for 48....

Ooops, he doesnt play, and Hedo & Lewis barely combine for 30???

25/3/09 - L 84-82
KG - 4 pts, 8 rebs, 1 blk & 1 ast in only 17 mins (granted he was either hurting or they didnt want to play him).
Hedo only 13, Lewis with 21, and Dwight with 24, 21 & 4.

KG plays again and you see Lewis and Hedo go for 34 and Dwight another monster game.

In saying all this, it's pretty obvious that what you KG "woulda" done, is crap. If KG had played this series as everyone expected he would, we'd have hardly seen Davis, and especailly that game winning jumper.

Celts wouldnt have done any better with KG than they did without him.

KGs times fading out fast, he's starting to become over rated IMO.

LMFAO...

Am i reading this correctly. KG wouldn't have made any difference to this series against the Magic?? And you back that up with stats on pts, rebs and stls etc??

Where are your pts allowed, opp FG% etc etc.

We lose an all nba player and the team glue both in the lockeroom and defensively and it made no difference. And you think he would of played on Dwight?

I was never going to use the excuse we lost as no KG. Thats the excuse for the reason we haven't gone back to back. Not the reason we lost this series. We lost this series because we couldn't function defensively. We had to make do with what we had and thats that. But to say KG wouldn't alter our defence or any part of our game is ridiculous. I doubt you find many if any that share that view.

and its a mute point about babys game winning jumper etc. We controlled that game and let them back in. With KG in there we get more stops and baby doesn't even have to take that shot. I know its a what if game but....

Its defense that wins titles and no matter what baby gave us offensively he didn't offer what we needed defensively.

I don't know why I'm even bothering to reply to a 'KG doesn't make a difference' comment.

Am I upset my team came out at 3Q time with a 4pt deficit and let the magic go on a 10-0 run.. Sure. Am I upset we didn't close it out in game 6 when up by 9pts late in the 4th, sure even more.

Quite frankly we blew this series that was there for the taking from a team that relies on its jumpshot and threes to win games. That wont take them to an NBA title. Dwights inside game wont take them far either as its plain woefull. He can't hit a shot to save himself unless its a wide open dunk or layup. He makes Shaq look like Kevin Mchale.

Another year another window as we still have PP, Allen, KG, Rond and Perk. Its up to Ainge what he adds with that but even that starting five will take us high in the east once again. But how far in the playoffs is dependent on our bench and a bit of luck. The luck we didn't have this year and we fought hard and did well to get one game from the ECF's. Sure we ****ed it up but reaching the ECF's would of been the most I expected from our team the way it was.

Now I cheer on the Cavs, the best team this year by far and with the best player in the league also.
