The Official 2012-13 EPL Thread

If Man United win tonight it will surely be Lucky 13 for Sir Alex at the end of the season. A 12 point gap over City will take too much pegging back and to be honest they aren't going well enough at the moment chasing a 9 point gap.

Good luck to him anyway, it's a fair effort for a 71 year-old!

i know this is the epl thread. but how good was it to watch barca get dropped this morning. im not sure if they can come back from that.

gareth bale.

oh my god.

had $100 on tottenham too so i was stoked when i seen that bomb soar into the back of the net

as will i... im going to go as far as saying he is a better player than messi.

messi is the perfect finisher but its been a long time since i have seen him create anything himself, he relies heavily on his triumvirate midfield.

bale just produces on the spot, scores whenever he wants.

for those who missed it

Can't agree with that. Bale is no doubt a really good player, and he seems to be getting better. Maybe at a big club he'll do even better, or he'll be outshone by having quality players around him for a change.

Triumvirate you say??

so hes the best player in the world you think? hed make my top 5, but theres no way he'd beat out messi or cristiano. messi creates alot more than bale aswell. hes tied 2nd for assists in la liga (9). bale has 4 in all comps. not sure how many of his goals youve seen this campaign but messi does create alot of his own chances. hes been phenomenal all season (again), bale is having a quality purple patch. he always has a really great couple/few months but then slows down a bit (or starts slow). messi has powered through for a solid 4 seasons now. messi's ball control/skills and passing are a level above bale aswell.
just my opinion...

There is something about left footers/handers in sports that captivates people isn't there? Lance Frankiln, Adam Gilchrist, Lionel Messi etc. Gareth Bale is going to have one incredible highlights DVD when he has finished!

their 3 mids. iniesta, xavi and busquetes is what i was referring to, i think i used the word in the right sense.

im actually going to back myself and say at this present time yes... messi and ronaldo play in the la liga. where there is only 3 teams. then nothing.

so its easy for them to shine. behind their quality sides. bale plays in average side in comparison to that of madrid and continually produces.

my point is clearly seen in the champions league though. madrid have had a mediocre run id say. dortmund would have to be my favourite team to watch and i won a fortune when they beat madrid but even then it was unexpected to most. and when barca got done by a young ac milan side. messi went missing.

both messi and ronaldo are outstanding talents but to me they cant really be tested until they make the BPL switch...

cristiano has already been and 'mastered' the epl?! and messi has shone on the champs league stage on many occasions? vs english teams. plus the football is less technical in england. messi has a far better chance of coming to england and producing than bale does of going to spain or italy and keeping up his calibre of play. history shows that. not too many englishman/brits have had great success anywhere but in england because their grass roots focus too much on strength and stamina (in my opinion). they cant compete in the technique department.
for me no-one comes close to messi. not even cristiano. but thats me. not to say i dont rate bale. hes brilliant. and exciting to watch.
each to their own tho...not trying to convince you. just my point of view.

yeah i like your points. i suppose mata and silva have made the switch and proved they can cut it... just over recent weeks and barca's form and what ive watched (only highlights) i think bale is in better current form.

but anyway we will see next year because it looks like bale will be in the UEFA CL

who do you think spurs will keep out of that 4th spot? i think chelsea will lose steam.
mata and silva are examples for sure, but players from ligue 1 and bundesliga also come to england and shine...once they build up some muscle and fitness.
agreed that on current form (last month or so) bale might be on top (maybe). but he does come and go in spurts over the course of a season. plus hes been playing as a forward while defoes been out, so goals were always more likely.
you should check out full barca matches. even 'out of form' (havent lost in 5 weeks in the league? and messi's scored in each game) theyre beautiful to watch...
el clasico next week!
