The man was never cut from his high school team, he simply played for the JV squad (as its superstar no less) because he was a freshman.
The fact that he was even considered for the varsity as a freshman speaks volumes of his talent, especially back in that era when it was largely unheard of.
His coaches wanted him on the JV squad because they wanted to give him more minutes for his personal development as they saw him as a key figure of the varsity squad in future.
MJ's a great player, but he'll never miss a chance to build on his own legend!
