Steven Peter Deveraux Smith doesn’t roll off the tongue like Allan Robert Border, but my goodness he’s taken on so many qualities of the former Australian captain. For the best part of a decade, Border was “the” wicket...Smith is now undeniably Australia’s best and most important batsman. Today, he almost single-handedly denied England a big first innings lead.

Whether with the bat, as captain or as a brilliant slip fielder, he continues to stand tall.
 
When Australia went 4 down yesterday arvo one Paul Collingwood said something very similar but less eloquently....

"I would trade all 4 wickets for Smith. Not a better batsmen in the world."
 
Cummins was instrumental too.

Smith waa not getting an inch and Pat ably supported him. The patience game is very rare in a batting line up. Whilst Warner is undeniably electric, he's just incapable of grind.
 
Warner missed tests for something similar in 2013.

What about Jimmy Anderson pegging the ball back at Banksy?

Now imagine an Aussie bowler or Warner doing that and then imagine the media outcry and hand wringing.

Anyway. Brilliant day for Australia. Fingers crossed for the win.
 
England truly had Australia. If it weren't for Smith's batting, and a lesser part Cummins holding on whilst he did, then I think England take a 100 run lead at least. Instead, we take a minor lead, apply the blow torch and stride home to a 10 wicket win.
 
Day nighter starts tomorrow and big bash is less than 3 weeks away

Do people prefer more or less big bash games? i started out last year watching every game of big bash for about a week. If i wasnt watching it live id record it and catch up later on. By the end of it i was watching just the friday/saturday games and finals. Found the interest just wasnt in it towards the end

Can sense an England comeback this test match especially if they get the better of the twilight bowling conditions
 
I watch 95% of the BBL, usually 7 - 8 games live as well as 6-7 WBBL games and rest on TV. Like you I will series link on Foxtel and watch when I can. This year will be a slog as extra games and a few double headers.

Hope then rain stays away from Adelaide and we get a good test - and a 2 nil lead
 
I try and watch all the Thunder games, wife and daughter follow the Sixers so watch most of them as well. If the TV is on it will be on BBL if there is a game although don't watch them religiously.
Close enough to 1000km return trip for us to get to any cricket but try to get to one of the Thunder v Sixers matches each year and if there is a WBBL game before we will be there to watch it.

Have 2 WBBL games only 80kms from home this season so will be at both of them.
 
Havent been to a game of cricket (other than local) since i was a teenager, now 33. That would have been a one day game, Aust vs somebody :S
 
Although I don't watch international T20 cricket, I love the BBL. Due to an extraordinarily boring social life, I could quite easily watch every game this season

I like how Channel Ten covers the tournament - and the "bang/crash/wallop" style is certainly suited to primetime television....and my short attention span! Live coverage of WBBL games has been a masterstroke. While watching the recent women's Ashes series I kept thinking "I know her...I know her.....I know her" - because I had seen a lot of the women play during the WBBL last season.

For those of you with young girls: how much of an impact has the coverage of women's cricket had on your young un' falling in love with the game and finding new heroes?

Well, the Ashes go pink today - weather permitting. PS for those of you in Victoria, hang on to your hats!! I think England's fast bowlers will be a handful under lights, but their batting lacks a bit of X Factor unless Moeen Ali tees off. Interestingly, if he is unable to bowl (as reported), then we should expect a lot of chin music directed at him from Cummins and Starc. As much as I am a Chadd Sayers fan, it would have been mightily unfair to drop Pat Cummins after his stellar performance in Brisbane.
