The Australian cricket non-official thread!

I felt having only the 3 pace bowlers and a spinner we lack that variety to keep the batsmen guessing. An all rounder would be a nice addition to the squad.
Yep, agreed. I think it is immensely beneficial to have a capable bowler in the top 6 to provide that variety. I don't think it's as simple as saying "pick the best six batsmen".

Smith can bowl. Head in at 6 and he can spin too.

Nevill in for Wade. Wade euthanised.

I'd have Cummins in. He's wasted in BBL. Give him a fresh taste of tests, at home.

Before Yasir went for 1/100 (after being 1/0 too), I'd have probably dropped Lyon also.

Australia doesn't have a capable all rounder. Just need a couple of bats who bowl a bit. And when Hogg says Cartwright isn't even the best all-rounder in WA, you kind of have to chuckle.

I wouldn't pick a all rounder for the sake of picking an all rounder, we have tried that with Mitch marsh for too long and it wasn't successful. I've never got the hoopla over Mitch marsh, must be something about his last name

Picking a batsman that can roll the arm over is a better option hence why I would consider travis head to bat 6.

In preparation for India I would reinstate Nevill as he's a much better keeper then wade

On the rare occasion Smith does bowl these days, he doesn't threaten anyone. He bowls a lot of long-hops and full tosses. Perhaps his bowling has fallen away since he began to focus on his batting, but in my opinion he doesn't provide anything with the ball these days.

(Apologies in advance for this, @Keatoboy!) I also don't see why anyone rates Head's bowling. I can't see him being at all successful as a spinner in Test cricket. Just doesn't look threatening at all every time I've seen him bowl, and his stats aren't great either.

I don't think a couple of batsmen who bowl a bit is good enough. What's the point of having them get through a few overs an innings without looking like taking a wicket. Personally, I'd pick someone in the top 6 who is a competent bowler.

As for the wickie, I'm really hoping Whiteman can have a run of good form. At the moment though, Wade doesn't look up for it. In India at least I'd bring back Nevill.

Shame Burns is in such poor form at domestic level. I think he would be more suited to 6 at test level as he plays spin quite well. He is not an opener!!!

I think we need a Bracken style medium pacer for India. Keeper at stumps, cutters at 120km, pricks of things to face from the crease particularly in a typically crumbling sub continent wicket

I will find you, and I will delete your ozcard account!!!:p

It will certainly be a very mentally and physically tired bowling attack that takes to the field in Sydney. I can't help but think that one of Starc or Hazlewood will be rested, with hopefully @Keatoboy your man Chadwick to come in). Will the selectors also consider Steve O'Keeffe to bat at number 7 and partner Goat with the spinning duties?

I have been out of the loop and indeed without power since 4am yesterday so have missed the daily discussions since the end of day two. I'd give Nic Maddinson the SCG Test on the "nothing to lose" basis. Cut the poor bastard a bit of slack, I reckon.

Yesss Agar. What a game!

Tough for the Renegades to lose Bravo though. If he hadn't been injured the result may have been different.

Lynn would have to be close to first picked in the squad for the T20 internationals at the end of the summer. Great to watch.

Also very excited to see Agar named in the Test squad for Sydney :)
