The 2011 ONEIL RUGBY LEAGUE PRICE GUIDE IS HERE

Not to sound negative just constructive observations... I like it for the purpose of giving a rough guide, looking forward to issue 2

Received my copy today a few errors i have noticed
2008 Select Centenary - Past heroes set $30???
condition of cards NM/N should be M??
12 pages, not really unless your including cover, welcome page and back page..
Some stuff missing 1994 Kangaroo Heroes Auto's , 1996 MVP's

Hey Michael,

Appreciate the feedback. Yeah a couple typo's there - will get them fixed up. Its is 12 pages though - thats what the printer stung me for!!

There is some stuff missing however we could not get adequate enough data for some sets so the decision was made to leave them out. We just didn't really want to be putting in prices with no basis for them other than our own opinions.

Thanks again - glad you received yours - still have some guys that didnt for some reason.

Owen

TCFS - id say 35-40 at least well thats what i generally paud each for my set.

and the All star sigs would have to be 400 ? wouldnt they ...

Johns, Lockyer, GiRDS and Tallis isnt a bad selection for the autos.

The prices of the last few i have seen sell on Ebay
AL1 Gordon Tallis
$547
AL2 Andrew Johns
$650
AL3 Brad Fittler
$750, $600
AL4 Ryan Girdler
$456, $660

Well, firstly I think we have to say a big thank you to Owen for taking the time to to put this booklet together, it can only imagine how much hard work it would have been and will continue to be with ongoing updates etc, so here goes my attempt at reviewing this book.

1st, the content is not complete, in the Dynamic series a great many cards are missing or are not even mentioned, such as 1994 Series Gold signature cards, 1994 Series 2 Supporters Choice signature cards, 1994 Masters Captain's Choice Acetate cards & the Steve Renouf signature card set. In addition the 1995 series appears to me to be misleading, in the booklet the Force 5 signature cards are priced at $100, nothing about the standard Force 5 cards and in series 2 the Playmakers cards are priced at $120 but nothing is mentioned about the Playmakers signature cards.

This trend continues with 1996 Series 1 and Series 2, no mention of the National Heroes and All Fired Up signature cards. Plus where is the 1996 Signature Gold series (I would say it must be on some of the pages that are missing, 12 pages indeed).

2nd, this price guide does not seem to take into account the difficulty of obtaining certain cards, for instance the 2003 XL club player of the year card featuring John Skandalis, this card is as rare as rocking horse ****e and is valued at far more than 3 dollars. Also lets consider the Team of the Centuary Foiled Sigs, someone please show me where I can buy these for 15 dollars each.

I sat down and worked out what I would make if I was a reseller / dealer and was selling the 2011 Champions at these stated prices, based on those prices I would have to sell every card including all base sets (and we were generous with the rookie prices cause they arn't mentioned) and I would not make enough money to cover the wholesale price of a case. So I might as well close up shop and find another job.

So thanks for your efforts, it is a noble cause to try to define a card price but I do not think what has been achieved here will benefit the card industry, there is just too much missing, tazo's, telegraph cards, premiership sets to name a few.

The biggest problem is that having this price guide independant of any sellers (am assuming ebay was the main source of statistical data) you are only sampling a small portion of the sales market and the true worth of a card is never realised. I will chuck this book in the cupboard and that is where it will stay...........Owen, my intent with this is not to cause you grief, these are my opinions and mine alone, much as the price guide is your opinion on the worth of a card/s.

Appreciate your feedback Dave and at the end of the days people like yourself would always be my harshest critics. I did leave out a number of the 1996 series but mostly this was down to not having enough price data available. As for the different signature series from Dynamic there are far too many examples of fakes out there that distort the market. We had prices to publish for them but i pulled them based in these concerns. In terms of leaving out the premier sets there is a note on the back cover that i have not priced them because they are still available from many seller at their retail price. It would be great to have the pogs and telegraph cards in there - but they where just something i saw little value in. Perhaps i need to re-think that.

As for the 2011 price guide, i stand by those prices and my comments that they are currently over priced. To me its simple economics - if you can pick up a 2005 Power Willie Tonga future force for around $50 (production run 260) then a Jharal Yow Yeh 2011 signature (production run 600) cannot be worth anywhere near the $100 plus dollars people are paying for them.

Once again i thank you for your feedback - if anything its healthy that our hobby is having these discussions.

If Select do what they did with the Double Troubles and make the Star sigs for the rest of the teams in series 2 at the ratio of 1:2 Boxes.........They are actually doing something right.

i suppose it would be the best option although i hope they dont do it. i want a future force set or a top prospect set. id want them to be still new to the game though under 40 comp games.

My Picks Would Be
Sharks - Gardner
Panthers - Earl
Manly - Buhrer / Chery Evans
NQL - Tariq Sims
Dogs - Barba
Canberra - Sam Williams

there the ones that come to mind straight away i could go further but you get my general idea.

id also like a jersey card set. not the crap parallels i mean like the 2003 cards. maybe one from each team numbered to 300 so they arent to expensive.

Dave

I'll put my 10c worth in I believe a price guide should just be that & by listing the lowest price that card sold for that year & the highest it sold for in the same year would give the buyer a truer guide to what a card is worth by factoring in all the conditions of the card the rareaty & how desperate the buy wants the card, The only way this would work would be electronicly & you would have to subscible to view the current price that could easily be kept upto date & build a history for years gone by & this would be the only way to give a buyer a true price guide & not one that is out of date or has typos that can't be corrected till the next issue. I believe this would also be cheaper to produce & maintain.
