Spurs fined $250K for sitting players

Do you think penalizing the Spurs for not playing their top players in Miami is right?

Stupid imo. Sure the NBA is a business and they want the best players represented every game but if they are all injured due to fatigue the players will be siting longer than 1 game. Maybe siting all of them at the same time wasn't the best way to go about it though.

Yeah, I agree with you that if they didn't sit all 4 players. Or they could have chosen the game against Orlando instead of Miami. Fans paid tickets and waited for this game between top teams from each conference. Could be a finals preview...

What a joke. The spurs lose by getting the L anyway.
But they almost have won the game with the reserves playing. That was the most disturbing thing for me being a Heat fan...

The fine is probably the first time I've heard of its kind happening in the NBA.

to almost beat the Miami's best line up with there bench players thats not bad for 250k :P and to let your top 4 starters get a rest its just shows you spurs bench players will stand up when needed.

I agree, there could been an excuse given for the players not being there, but still ... the spurs did this several times last season and nothing was done. Why slog them with a fine now? It's a pathetic excuse on the NBA's behalf.

This NBA dictatorship must end. Spurs losing this game might unintentionally give away home ground playoff advantage which might cost them more than $250k, so why penalize more. Just a money grab in my opinion.

I totally agree with the punishment, maybe not so hefty a fine, that's ALOT of coin.

Yes teams have done this in the past, but they have all had positions locked up in the playoffs and can only risk injury by playing guys in games 80-82.

I get why Pop did it, but as a fan of the game and a customer of nba League pass, I was disappointed that all the key guys were not playing.

People are saying that it's the travel factor. PLEASE!!!! They travel first class and eat the best food. Sure it must be tough but wake up people. Like I said earlier, they could've done it in the Orlando game and therefore still had the marquee match up on a day there was only 2-3 games.

Corporate sponsors and season ticket holders and league pass/TV viewers don't pay to see bench mob so I agree with something being done in theory. Having said that, what if Pop said they were injured? Is there some kind of proof required? It's probably the fact that he came out and said he was resting them because of the unfair schedule so Stern HAD to do something he was forced to.

Also comes back to teams keeping players out at end of year to avoid potential injuries heading into playoffs. Is the NBA going to not fine there because it's better for the bottom line to have star players in the playoffs anyway? They didn't fine Boston or Spurs or anyone else from the past few years that I can remember so why start now and what is the precedent set for?

English premier league teams rest players every year at Christmas time when their schedule gets heavy. I understand everyone wants to see the best players but at the end of the day it's a 100 game season for most teams!!

im trying to work out why people are pissy that the bench players were playing ? yes fair enough we all pay hefty amount to see the best players play, but i mean if i was a spurs fan and my bench team played that well id be happily sitting there hoping they would beat miami, c'mon guys seriously, some people need to get off the high horse and stop expecting the best players to play every game...hell i watched it and i was wrapped to see there bench do that well.....

i agree if nba is going to fine teams for resting there best players it should be the same for every code of sport...poor form NBA.

No Parker & Duncan, Spurs fall to Blazers 137-97

The Spurs rested Duncan and Parker in that game, while Manu and Splitter were injured and didn't play as well. Maybe evil Stern only watches games in New York and Miami.

There is a reason Duncan has been so healthy for so long in his career, the Spurs manage his minutes and games so he can star in the playoffs.

The Spurs did what was smart for the Spurs, and they have the trophies to prove they know what to do.

The refs call a deserved travel and an offensive foul or two on Miami, the Spurs win on the last shot from Neal, if that had happened would the Spurs have been fined?

I don't see how such a big fine is warranted...surely you are allowed to play whatever players you want to from your roster and give some of your top guys a rest? Why can't you play whoever you want in any game?

Let's not forget that the bench really stepped up in this case.If anyone predicted it would be a tight game then please come to the race track with me sometime. It should've been a 40 point blow out. Miami would've taken the game easier whereas the Spurs bench stepped up nicely.

Last season the Full Spurs squad lost by 30 in Miami. I think they figured it might happen again so why waste their legs.

People rag on the Spurs as is, but do you think ANY non Spurs/Miami fan will tune in without Duncan, Parker and Ginobili playing? Not many would.

The $250k is excessive.

I would have thought $50k would be even pretty steep.
