Well after a couple of months on being uncomfortable and miserable at work i took the plunge and quit last week.

Wasnt an easy decision, but long hours and going home after work and being stressed and pissed off was taking it toll on my personal life....i just dont want it any more!!

Dont really have much to go to, but Chenara and I will be travelling over seas after we get married on October. We are heading to LA, Las Vegas and Costa Rica for our honeymoon and then off to the UK for 6-12 months of working holiday!!

17 working days left and then i am out of this place!!!=P~ =P~

I am Feeling a little bit anxious at the moment....both excited and nervous about what i will do between now and October.....Anyone else ever done something like this.....??

thats a huge change but they say its as good as a holiday (and ur having one as well). My wife and i contemplated the uk but decided to settle.
All the best buddy. :)

i done something similiar.worked at the one place for about 8 years.one night i woke up and went to work and half way through my sift i thought that's it i have had enough.walk into the bosses office and told him i will finish my sift and i won't be back.on the drive home i thought shit what am i going to tell the wife.she was a bit cranky as we had two young kids.so we thought nows the time for a change and put our home in queenslands sunshine coast on the market.it sold in two weeks.we pack up and traveled a bit around australia until we found our little bit of paradise.that's why we now live in a nice bush setting.and we both agree it's the best move we have ever made for us and the kids.must have worked as we now have a two year old boy to go with our 14 and 12 year old kids and and even the kids think it was a great move and could not be happier.
so i reckon it will work out for you and your better half bennyj.just enjoy yourself and take the chance and try something new.
tony :D :D :D :D

on ya benny, it takes big cajones to just up and leave your job and make a big change to your life like that. but thats what life is all about mate, taking a risk. its always better to regret something you did than something you didnt do.

Like Tony said, it could be the best decision you ever make. :D

These things have a way of working out mate.
I did a similar thing in late November. I'd worked at a law firm for over ten years and I decided to resign and start my own practice.
So I left in late December and now Im busy setting up my own very small firm.
What you will find mate is that when you find a new job, you will feel invigorated and you'll realise that it was the right decision to make.
Good luck mate - but Im sure things will work out for you and Chenara.

Thanks heaps guys....it is good to hear that i am not the only one who has felt this way!!

I have sort of gotten over this work now (after 6 years) and am finding it very hard to stay motivated ;)....just want to get the hell out of here!!:D

Cant wait for it all to happen....and like most of you have mentioned, i am sure it will work out OK!! Vegas should be sweet!!

benny and tony, can i ask what u did to make u feel burned out? was it thee stress, the people at ur work, or the people u had to deal with? was it the job itself? was it the money?
im interested to hear the motivating factors as to why people quit, especially seeing as they have priorities in life.
tony, u say u ended up in a more rural area, was getting work hard? especially with a family in tow.

Good luck Benny! I like your attitude! lol. I have been feeling that same way for a few years now but just haven't made the big change yet. Hopefully it will come soon enough for me too. Good luck, USA trip sounds unreal too!

You're honeymoon sounds cool Benny, early congrats again on the wedding.

As for your decision, like it's been said, it's better to let something go that you're not happy with than to stick around and let it get you down. Take some time, get your head sorted and look for something that'll be rewarding for you all round. It sounds easy and sometimes it is but good luck mate, you're a legend.

Mate I know the feeling! Im getting a bit jack of working in whats regarded as a technology leader and an innovative company, however you look at the way we are run nehind the scenes and some of the people are still thinking that its the 80's and the old way is the only way to do things.

Its frustrating......doing what you have done takes a lot of guts, but can have some great benefits!

Good luck! The Honeymoon sounds great!

Cheers
Matt

thanks for asking yellows2k.i was a supervisor for a big company and i had 2 days of over a 14 month period.we worked 12 hours on 12 hours of and i really did'nt see much of the family as i was either tired or trying to organise the next shift.living on the sunshine coast my kids were seeing things they should not be seeing at there age(mainly drugs in the primary school :( ).and we lived two streets away from that daniel morcombe the young kid who went missing waiting for a bus.
about work in a small town i am fortuante and after our sale of our house which we brought 17 years before we sold and the prices were a lot cheaper then and a small inheritance i don't need to work.like i said above. the move was a total life change so my wife works because she wants to and i have become the stay home dad and i am loving it.
hope that explains a few things for you
tony :D

benny

I am in the middle of it right now.... been at my company for 3 yrs, last yr the company got bought out.. my role became no more, but they wont make me redundant... so today, via my old boss..i got a new job !!!

will be sad when i leave in four weeks... cos my colleagues are like family... as we are all creatures of habit, when we are moved outside of our cosy comfort zone, we all feel nervous & anxious....

like locky said... things will find its way... im also recently married... enjoy it when it comes around... & one final advice... ENJOY VEGAS !!

All the best with your future endevours, we all know that change is inevitable and the unknown but when you come to that fork in the road you have to take the plunge. Good Luck and i know you won't regret it.

Good Luck with it mate, hopefully it works out for the best...

I jumped shipped from my home town straight after year 12 (3 days after my last exam), without telling anyone but my mum and my boss, and moved to Darwin for 16 months... best move I EVER made and i dont regret it for a minute, hopefully your journey after this decision works out!

What made me do it.....a bit of everything. I have worked for the same company for 6 years (since i left school) and late last year was offered the chance to buy in and become a director. After doing so the attitudes changed of some of the other directors as they felt jealous and felt as though with me in the company they were losing out on some of the profits.

They were making it blantanly clear that they did not want me here. I thought it was something i could live with, but our latest holiday was the last straw.

We went to the Gold Coast for 2 weeks and in that time i was still receiving 5-10 work related calls a day and having to work half days everyday replying to emails etc. Chenara hated it and it was very frustrating for me.

I am 23 years old and havent had a proper holiday for 4 years. I have only travelled outside of QLD once (except for going to NZ twice for work trips). We planned to start a family in the near future and it is not a lifestyle i want for my new child or new wife.

After making the decision to quit and after handing in my resignation, i feel like a different person. Feel like a burden has been lifted!!

As with Tony...Luckily for me, the industry i am in (mortgage broker) has helped me to own my own home as well as a few investment properties. We have no fixed debts, so the next 7 months before we go overseas will be filled with footy, golf, maybe some casual work ;)....but most of all no stress!! =P~
