Shoulder charged banned :(

This, the last thing the referees need is another rule for them to interpret their own way.

I have noticed lately some members using words or terms that could be offensive to any gay members on the site. What's peoples thoughts on this? I know people don't mean any harm by it but it might offend some people. I don't think racist terms would be accepted on this site and they could offend overseas members or members of different races...yet it seems fine to use the word gay in a negative manner or to use terms that have been throughout history used as hateful descriptions of homosexuals.
Maybe you could go to the Commission and see if they can get the word banished from the English language ???

Yeah i think litigation is also part of the reason why they are doing this.

The NFL is currently being sued for billions by thousands of ex-players for concussions on the basis that they NFL did not do enough to protect them while they are playing. Im sure somewhere in the NRL lawyers have tapped them on the back and told them they better appear to be better protecting players.
Easy fix here, make every player wear pretty pink headgear to match the skirts they will be wearing soon !!!

Spot on and well responded to, I've edited the original post as well as your quote. It was an unnecessary comment whether there are gay members here or not!

The rule kind of nullifies Sonny Bill Williams comeback. Not sure that i saw him make a tackle round the legs, the entire time he was at the Bulldogs...

You know he's been playing union while he's been gone, where the shoulder charge has been banned for years?

I assume that since he won pretty much every comp he was a part of over the last couple of years, that he did, on occasion, make the odd tackle.

Don't really watch union though, so couldn't say for sure!

One of $BW's first games for Toulon he was sin binned for a shoulder charge but I doubt he woould have made many tackles as he was in the backline.

i noticed that yesterday while browsing, it being used a few times in a negative way....as someone who is an Open gay male i find it offensive, but i dont call them out on it, because i can blatantly see that they don't have the largest of vocabulary and if they have to use the term "gay" as a reference to something bad they are clearly narrow minded...

Problem is with the Inglis case is the hoo-ha that erupted in ROUND 21 after it had been discussed all bloody season!!!

And Young was carted off, dead to the world AND PLAYED THE VERY NEXT WEEK.

If the NRL didn't like it, they should have BANNED Inglis AND SAT OUT Young for a couple of weeks, saying you were nearly dead there Deano, so you're gonna sit out as an example to EVERY other footy player.

I don't have a problem with them banning it at all - it's the same trend across Ice Hockey & NFL - and it's not just lawyers trying to make a dollar, it's being driven by scientific studies of the impact of repeated concussions.

Also need to take into account the fitness/strength of today's players compared to even 15 years ago.

Kind of missing the point with the head knocks & Inglis comparisons. A shoulder charge is not a high tackle unless the shoulder comes into contact with the head. Any high tackle should be banned, I actually thought that was already the case, but the law-makers seem to find difficulty in distinguishing wether any type of shoulder charge can be deemed as a safe tackle. To make life easier for the already under siege and hopelessly confused officials, they ban the tackle completely. Well done, problem solved. =D>
