Should the power structure of Ozcards be changed?

Im a mod on spursreport.com which is a massive site.

We have problems like this all the time....lke Vlad has mentioned, we have very clear cut rules which members can see. The mods also have their own forum, only available for the mods, so things are discussed before bans are made (obviously someone going on and posting porno just gets banned without consideration)

this type of bulletin boards have temporary bans, best bet is a mod does a 48 hour ban on someone, letting them know via email. This should allow enough time for mods/admins to get together and discuss. It also gives the other person time to settle down, and usually they are fine and everything is rosey

Those ideas sound pretty fair Trey......personally I think it was TOO harsh to ban Justin for the conversation they had in a thread but I do understand where the mods come from. They have to set a line, if you cross it you pay the consequences.......if they didn't do this, this message board would be terrible. I hope Justin is allowed back though, we should start a petition

Ive got no idea what the situation was, but if it was justdabest I hope some consideration was put in, considering he was a financial backer of this site.

I think the mods here do a great job.
One thing that I dislike on message boards is where members bait another member, or regularly make posts designed to provoke argument.
In my view there's no need for such posts, especially on a board such as this where there is increased interaction between members via trades and sales.
I think that the mods here do a great job on cutting that sort of behaviour out.

Having just got around to reading the thread that lead to justdabest getting banned, I vote NO NO NO NO five times more strongly. Perfectly handled, the guy was being a total arse and acting like he was the good guy.

Having been a mod elsewhere before it's easy to understand what was really going on, ozcards doesn't need members like that.

Top work Mod team.

hmm after reading the thread, I wouldnt change my vote, but I would like to see any answer such as.....

"I have busted x amount boxes justin, but this thread isnt about my own experience, its on everyone elses as well - and this post wasnt just about busting the boxes, it was about them not supply internet sites"

justin could have responded "no worries, if anyone would still like to buy UD products, you can get them from me"

Thats a crap statement. You cant say Chad handled it well either??

I voted No....but agree with Carlos....maybe we need a couple more mods just to balance it out a bit.

I reckon 1 for every 50 members. That would give us eight and provided they were chosen carefully....i think it would help to iron out a few issues that some people have with the current mods....

It's not a great idea to have too many Mods but an addition of some new Mods seems like a good idea.....who decides those sort of things ?

The Admins decide - Me, Kyle and Chad.

We have discussed the issue before - and decided we do not need more Mods.

What do people think adding more mods is going to achieve ? At the end of the day, users can give their input, but the final decision comes down to the Admins any way.

Just asking dude, it's a thankless job and very time consuming so i thought it wouldn't hurt to have one or two more helping out !

At the end of the day - I enjoy my time here more than I don't so you must be doing a good job

I don't want to see the mods changed because I believe they do a great (and thankless) job the majority of the time but I do think some improvements can and should be made to the forum.

- clear rules of what will get you banned
- clear rules of what will get your post deleted (probably the same as what gets you banned)
- set process of what happens when you break the rules - warning by PM, one week ban, etc
- all rules posted in a rules section of the forum (including trading and packaging rules, etc)
- a mod should not be able to enact a ban on any issue that they are personally involved in

thankyou jeff, thats the most level headed and sensible post ive read on this touchy subject so far. i think the thing that annoyed me the most about the justin ban was the fact that it seemed to be a spur of the moment decision, with no due process being followed. these "rules" that Hill mentioned are nowhere to be found, and if your going to enforce rules, they should be clearly visible to all members.

New mods are not going to be elected, chad and hill have made that much clear...whether its because they genuinely think they are doing a great job and absolutely nothing needs to be changed or whether they dont want to lose the complete power they hold over 400+ members is a matter of conjecture. i think one of the main problems is there is no accountability for mods...Hill stated that just because Justin had been here a long time and done many good things, he shouldn't have a license to do whatever he likes. Well the problem is, just because a person is a mod, doesn't mean they should have a license to do whatever they like either.

Anyway, i think the important thing is that concerns have been voiced in a mature (bargey being the exception), conflict-free way. i hope the mods will really listen to what is being said and dont simply take it as personal attacks on them. sure you can run the place like a dictatorship, nobody can stop that, but running the place on fear rather than respect is not the best way to go i feel.

I agree with Bargey.

Justin was baiting chad about how many boxes he had opened. Chad edited is post to remove his post and Justin conitnued it on and on and on. Even having a go at Hill.

I'm not saying Chad handled it well, but Justin needed to pull his head in ratehr than continue acting like a turkey

I think the most important thing and best thing about this site is it is like a "family" we look out and look after each other. Perfect example have been the wedding present for Kidd05(Ithink) and the presents for Al and Tracy.

If people here are going to be stirring up and baiting each other it is going to detract from the great feeling that has been created. Originally the site was more or less invite only and we knew who was coming and going, it's now starting to grow we don't want this place to degenerate to anything like the Beckett forums

Umm, i am little against with deleting the thread... what people wrote is history, and we will always use this thread for possbile similar issues to the people who will be joining in the future and missed this case..

So, we can always use this as a reference.. Mods made the point and members made the point.. it's actually healthy discussion...

but this is going nowhere..

so, let's get back into trading/selling/post-storming
