Hi all,

Had recently won some 09/10 Classics hot packs off Ebay. The buyer had the option of regular or registered post. Wanting to get the packs safe and sound, i chose the registered post option. A couple of extra bucks to make sure they arrive safely, why not :)

Received the cards late last week, however they came via regular post. Standard bubble mailer with $1.20 postage on the mailer.

Being slightly annoyed, i messaged the seller asking for an explanation. It has been a week and no reply  I have sent another message just in case the first one didn't get through.

Even though it is only a few bucks, still feel annoyed that the seller offers the service, however does not use it.

My question is, is there any way of getting the extra postage costs back? Can i go above the sellers head and get the funds back via PayPal?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

The postage might have been $1.20 but you have to allow for the packaging and paypal fees as well. The fact that he didn't send registered means he has broken the terms of the sale so i would report him to ebay and hit him with a Negative feedback so that it brings the problem to attention of future buyers.
Once he compains about the Neg. you can use that as trade bait for a refund. He pays you back, then you get the feedback revised.

Packaging yes, Paypal and Ebay fees.... HELL NO! Thats a ****ty way for idiot sellers to try and make a little bit extra because of something THEY are CLEARLY aware of from the very first time they sell on ebay... Don't like the fees don't use the service/s. It's that simple. Packaging and the cost of postage and perhaps a round up for handling at most. Anything else and you'll find a lot of people will not deal with you.

Ive seen you buy stuff of cherry in the past, he adds extra for paypal fees! I don't charge them myself but alot of people do it.

Yeah, i know that much mate. Was just explaning how the bubble mailer came to me. No stamp on it saying registered or anything like that. The regular postage was $3, and the registered postage was $6 in this circumstance.

I don't really want to go down the negative feedback path, but might be the solution. Thanks for your input Peter.

I've bought boxes off of Grayson and Renee at prices that included delivery and such. I don't win auctions, then pay $4 plus for regular post so clowns can get their fees back that way.

Edit: Didn't mean registered, meant regular..... oops.

I'd email him and say you didn't recieve the card and ask for refund, or go via paypal. I assume you have a receipt that you paid for registered mail. He took the risk not you. From your end you still got the card in same condition. Registered just offers you paypal/ebay protection for lost/undelivered item. I would think paying for this extra protection is enough whether it was used or not. He took the risk and saved a few dollars.

Have you made any progress with it? Refund? Moved on?

Just an update on this situation.

Seller finally contacted me saying he had been on holiday and let a family member to send his mail. Was sent regular post by mistake. Seller has refunded me the extra cash. Case closed.

Not many good dealings with Ebay, would be one of the few for me :)

as someone who has sold a lot of stuff on ebay, i dont think there is anything wrong with sellers covering their fees in the postage. The reason ebay, and buying off the net in general is so cheap, is because it doesnt have the overheads the shops do, like rent, employees and insurance. So if you have a problem paying a few bucks to help cover the overheads of a seller who is offering you a ridiculously discounted product, i suggest you go to your local shopping center and pay full retail.

just my two cents

Sellers never think there is anything wrong with over charging, the issue here was that the buyer paid for registered Post( a service) and it was sent regular, the seller originally charged $3 for regular service, which would have included postage $1.20, bubble envelope $.60, plus the extra $1.00+ to cover his fees etc, buyer paid $6 for this registered service and didn't receive it, thats the issue... Seller need to be upfront with his postage and if he wants to include extra for fee's, ink from his pen, petrol etc then put the appropiate price on and the buyer can then decide if he will bid....

Don't sell at Auction then..... Or start the auction a little higher to get your fees back. I sell quite a lot on ebay, on another id as well for my wife. Fees are apart of the service that the SELLER is using to reach the audience they want to reach... Don't want to pay fees don't sell on ebay, stick to forums, garage sales, your own website or whatever....

As much as buyers get things for considerably cheaper online, sellers get a much bigger market to sell to and reach far more people.

So trying to palm it off as only buyers win is a joke.
