Panini parallel rarities

I tend to be completely clueless when it comes to Panini and can never figure out not only what their various parallels are but also the relative rarities of them.

Obviously some are serial numbered, but many aren't. Am I correct in believing that some non-serial numbered parallels may be more elusive than some serial numbered offerings?

This question applies to all their releases.

I feel like I once found a website outlining this, but can not track it down now.

Any input from those members clued up in the modern world of Panini would be much appreciated!

Depending on the set, yeah, some non numbered parallels are rarer than some of the numbered ones. It all depends on the product though. I know the zebra in select is roughly equal in rarity /value to a parallel /25. Ditto with the old white sparkles out of prizm and genesis out of mosaic.

Thanks for that.

Do you (or anyone) know if there is any form of list for the various brands?

I find pricing to vary wildly on them and have no idea which prices are reasonable or not.

Thanks for that. I have been looking on cardboardconnection but did not know the order they listed non-serial numbered parallels was consistent with rarity, so that is useful information to have.

I will check out checklistcenter as well. I had not heard of that one.

I thought Mosaic Genesis were printed in the hundreds the first year, and presumably even more after that??

Nope. Mosaic genesis never had an actual print run.
Yeah for sure, that's why it's all speculative about how many there is.

But if we take a fairly "must grade" card like this Lebron PSA 9, there's currently 32 9s and 75 10s graded by PSA, plus around 50 graded by BGS, plus however many are graded by others or still raw out there. So I don't think it's unreasonable to assume a print run of at least 200 for first year Genesis.

It's like when fleer did the stars insert in 1997-98 ultra. They had no definitive print run but the golds (also with no print run) were only 10% of all made. Precisely how many were made? Ditto with platinum medallion that year - no print but - according to fleer - less than 200. 199 is less then 200.

Mosaic Genesis defintely at least 200.

Still a terrific set.

OP it's really hard to know some print runs as they are labelled as SSP or case hit.

Galactics for example have been worked out to be roughly /15 from the early years.

So I finally took the plunge and grabbed a few Panini parallels as an Ebay seller had a few Olajuwon for sale.

However, I can't get my head around some of the pricing as it seems to be all over the show. I put in some max bids and walked away but ended up with 11 cards.

I'm curious if the prices I paid are close to accurate so would be interested if any of the more experienced Panini collectors wanted to weigh in with price guestimates!

(All cards are Olajuwon and I think I have the names right — but probably not!)

Also one I didn't get that I think was a 2020-21(?) Mosaic White(?) /25. It went for a good deal more than the others...

Interested in peoples thoughts and no cheating on 130point!

I know 95% of these cards (not sure on the Legacy Diamond) but I'm used to buying Pistons nobody cares about so my prices will probably be way off considering we are talking about The Dream.

2014-15 Select Swatches Purple /99 - $15
2018-19 Threads Century Collection Gold Dazzle /10 - $20 (Lower price due to not a widely known set)
2019 Contenders Draft Picks Legacy Diamond /15 - $25
2019-20 Prizm Fast Break Pink /50 - $15
2020-21 Flux Solar Eclipse /49 - $8 (Unpopular set)
2020-21 Mosaic Yellow/Red Fusion /88 - $20 (Colour match?)
2021-22 Obsidian Electric Etch Orange /50 - $10
2022-23 Donrus Optic All Stars Blue (with Shaq) /49 - $25 (Shaq bump?)
2022-23 Prizm Blue Choice /49 - $15
2022-23 Prizm Bronze Fast Break /20 - $25
2022-23 Prizm Orange /49 - $15
Expecting to be way off!

Not sure about the white mosaic. I thought it might be a colour match but it's not so 🤷‍♀️

Thanks. Very interesting and I appreciate the comments.

Prices in USD or AUD?

Would be keen on other people's ideas (and comments) as well.

AUD which makes me think I am even further off!

If they we USD then I would definitely be happy with the prices I paid!

I've been away for the weekend and was hoping for a few more bites, but will post what I paid.

Prices paid were, listed first in USD then with (AUD) at a $1.50 exchange rate:

2014-15 Select Swatches Purple /99 - $15 — $8.50 ($12.75)
2018-19 Threads Century Collection Gold Dazzle /10 - $20 (Lower price due to not a widely known set) — $15.50 ($22.75)
2019 Contenders Draft Picks Legacy Diamond /15 - $25 — $5.50! ($7.75)
2019-20 Prizm Fast Break Pink /50 - $15 — $2.34 ($3.51)
2020-21 Flux Solar Eclipse /49 - $8 (Unpopular set) — $5.50 ($7.75)
2020-21 Mosaic Yellow/Red Fusion /88 - $20 (Colour match?) — $2.75 ($4.13)
2021-22 Obsidian Electric Etch Orange /50 - $10 — $3.25 ($4.88)
2022-23 Donrus Optic All Stars Blue (with Shaq) /49 - $25 (Shaq bump?) — $1.99 ($2.99)
2022-23 Prizm Blue Choice /49 - $15 — $4.65 ($6.98)
2022-23 Prizm Bronze Fast Break /20 - $25 — $6.50 ($9.75)
2022-23 Prizm Orange /49 - $15 — $4.35 ($6.53)
As some background; I paid $8 postage for combined tracked shipping (within the US) on the 11 cards, so say 77c a card or however you want to allocate that. However, the initially listed shipping was $5/card (with the option for combined shipping), so that definitely helped me get some of the lower end cards cheaply. A couple, such as the All Stars with Shaq didn't even attract another bid — no Shaq bump there!

I do feel better about my first real foray into purchasing Panini parallels. Total cost with freight etc ended up being $74 USD and since that is an amount I could have got a nice '90s card for I worried I had overspent.

Thanks for the input.

Wow, some great pickups. Probably goes to show if you patient, once products aren’t flavour of the month you can pick up some real bargains with so many products & parallels available.

Just to add to this I picked up one of those Mosaic White /25 for $7.50 today.

They have been going between 25 and 45 USD, so I don't know! 🤷‍♂️

I'm using tcdb at the moment to look into card odds of older KG cards - I'm so annoyed there's no Panini info!!

I find this incredibly frustrating and can't really determine why you would not release this information.

Coincidentally, I have just gone through my list of cards stashed in the US and Australia and checked out the pack odds on all the '90s and early 2000 cards, which I found to be a fun exercise.

One of my favourite childhood memories was checking the fine print on the back of the pack every time I pulled an insert and hoping it was long odds! (Usually the only way to guarantee this was for the insert to be of Chris Carr or Corey Alexander or their ilk...)
