Which should I start collecting? The store clerk suggested Dunross, as there were more chances of getting more valuable cards.

Plus can somebody give me advice on hobby vs retail?

I know it's the boring answer, but it's a personal choice.

If your collecting a set, both will hold roughly the same value. In that case, Id chase the best looking set, which is prestige (in my opinion)

In terms of being told you have 'a better chance' to pull more valuable stuff from Donruss, Im guessing they are referring to Donruss yeilding more jersey/auto hits per box.

This does not mean you have a higher chance of getting a big hit. It just means Panini stuffed the product with more junk 'hits' than prestige. A prestige gold /10 or green /5 or black 1/1 will always be as valuable as the Donruss equivalent.

A safe estimate is that only 1-2 boxes per case will hold a card worth more than the box price. This will be the same for Donruss or Prestige. So go for what looks best to you.

If your joining the hobby to get rich quick, go buy scratchies instead. We all dream of the big hit, and some have been lucky to live it, but know going in that it is highly unlikely. Then whatever you hit will make you happy:)

Welcome!

Thanks for the advice. Yeah my aim is to just start collecting again and try build a base set of a brand. Is there a link to a basketball cards 101 where all the buzz words are explained lol?

Don't waste ur time busting boxes if you like to make $$$$$ find a pc player and buy singles of the player. While the urge is great to open a box or pack I have found out 9 time out of 10 I get rubbish or no pc players in there, I usually regret buying then could have used the $$$ to buy a pc card instead
