My Fiance is pretty cool about me collecting...she just gets annoyed at me for always being on the computer.......especially on this site....

You have read my mind matt....

my hubby is cool with it, cause mostly its my money that i spend, he's not really into the collecting side, and as for games we watch them together, we met around our local bball association and at school and he was dating a friend that is a couple of years younger than us, so i had known him for a while before we got together, oh his fav plater is AI

I think that's pretty cool tho mate.... I hope to be so lucky to share the hobby with someone heehehehe

as opposed to being nagged for spending all my dough on cardboard....

Actually I always say the way to my heart is through either a nice Rider I don't have, or a box of cards LOL

None of this flowers and candy crap!

How bout you guys? Any interesting stories with your partners? If you don't have a partner currently, do you think your NBA will get between you and your girl? Hehe. Would you ditch your cards for her? Or the other way around? TSK TSK!

I am a strong believer that people should always maintain a sense of independence - both financially and personally. Failure to do this, in my experience, inevitably results in the relationship going stale.

I would rather not share any of my hobbies with a partner who has no genuine interest, other than to "make me happy". It doesn't make me happy, it makes me cringe. I would much rather my partner spend this time doing something she actually enjoys.

Financially, I see no reason to make it my partner's business what I do with my money (above and beyond meeting shared financial responsibilities).

Go The Pies!

haha good posts guys! My missus actually nags me to get back into basketball! :) I used to play rep but haven't shot hoops for a few years. As for cards... I am on a tight leash here buddies! Only trading or cheapos for me! Although I have talked her into getting me a box for my birthday :) BTW it is gonna be my first ever box bust! CAN'T WAIT!!! Oh and yeah when I first got back into collecting again.. I was trying fo figure out whether to finish some base sets I abandoned or just chuck them on the heap. She talked me into finishing them.. so they are 'her sets'. :) Everytime I get a mailday she goes... oh good. Then I gently tell her it is for 'her sets' and she lights up and hurries over! She doesn't give a toss about the other maildays lol

Complete waste of cards. I am not a huge fan of flowers, at all. Though if someone went to the effort to destroy a few crummy basecards to design a rose made outta cards... I'd almost be flattered by the effort lol

Well, I'm a bit older and as such, had to make decisions relevent to life in terms of where I spend my money. Given that, I sold off a lot of my high end cards about 18 months ago. I held on to a couple, but 90% went. This came as a result of my missus wanting me to, the fact we were building another house and needed some good cash flow at the time and I suppose the fact I was a bit over it all.

She doesn't mind me watching NBA games and so forth... it is part of the package that is me, and hell, she watches tripe like Big Brother, so she knows the door definitely swings both ways. We went together to a couple of games a few years back when in the States and she enjoyed it.... but she just doesn't get into basketball much :(

And I suppose I have to accept that.

Great replies guys!!! Very interesting how we all have different or similar situations. :)

Wayne: You have very good points there! I mean, there's no sense forcing yourself to like something for your other half if youre not sincere. But it can still work.. like man, my fiance is getting into the playoffs.. and she has cable TV overseas so they can watch the games live. She's bombarding me with sms saying how great LeBron James is and how crazy game 5 was... I was so jealous LOL. But I can really see the sincerity that she is very interested in getting into it because she wants to enjoy what i enjoy doing. This can't work with everyone that's for sure.

Haha and how easy would it be to make AJ happy? Just give her an uncirculated card of a T-Wolve for your anniv and you'll be smiling all day aye? Hehe.

I doubt any of us are addicts anyways. We just love the game. No die hard crazy fans here who sleeps with cardboard cut outs of their idols and locks their partner inside the closet while games are on...

Well except maybe Mavsman. LOL!
