Official ESP 2016 NRL Traders Thread (Sell Sheet Page 14)

I actually don't mind the look of this release. The only thing that I don't like is how big it is. Surely each series can be cut in half. Why the need for such a big series when there are two more series to collect after this one. No wonder there are no master set collector's anymore. Do we really need two sets of parallels, 90 pieces of the puzzle, 32 club heroes, cyber heroes and 3 different sas signature series. They could all be cut in half. I don't mind the faces of the game, I like the retirements and power forwards. I would love to collect the dynamic duos but don't bother because they are way out of my budget.

Can someone please help me understand what sort of collectors are esp trying to target. The set is too big for a master collector. Just seems they are really taking the fun out of collecting now.

top class?

The only good selections are reynolds, ennis, morgan, and dugan.

pearce ... who knows what this year will be like for him.
watmough, may never take the field again i read this morning. if the eels can sort out his payout he is ready to retire.

all i can say is im glad i gave this away years ago. people will complain about select, but i can tell you the game was alot healthier back then, you actually had something that held some sort of a value

Not a perfect release but at $4 per packet with those signatures it is reasonable value I feel.

I am a big Select fan also, it is certainly my preferred brand but we have to work with what we have got and I think it is better to focus on the positives. The simple theme is if you don't like the product don't buy it.

Some of the other selections are class also;

Thaiday, origin and test incumbent, premiership winner

Croker, club captain, points scorer of the year and will go close to all time NRL points record despite his crappy moniker

Roberts, dally m Centre of the year, could be anything

Stewart, former blues incumbent, premiership winner.

Slater, has had plenty of signatures but still the best #1 in the game IMO

Not perfect but better than it is being given credit for.

Have a look at the back for pieces of the puzzle there are 7 different teams represented. so for team collectors if your team is on the back you will need all 9 cards. Good way to increase sales of certain cards.

As a lot of people know, I'm a common card/set collector. IMHO cut the parallels and boost team commons to 12-15. You don't even need a team / club card. But that's me.

Everything else is seeded in for buck bangs for more serious collectors.

For mine, there's too much of everything in the chase card dept. Too many parallels and super large subsets. Even the sigs, there are 18 of the things. Good in theory but insane to collect. I really feel for master collectors. I used to try a make a set up (except the top end sig / predictor) stuff. Now...it's near impossible.

this is where we disagree. croker i know you're a fan of but he legit draws a fish for a signature. and its not even a nice looking fish.

i like the roberts sig, but he isnt even a titan anymore so thats a shocker.

slaters overdone for mine. he has about 1000 sig cards.

thaidays well past it too. i'll be surprised if he played big minutes this year even with the shortened interchange.

i just think they could've had better choices.

I don't completely disagree with you on some points. I was more making reference to the actual players and their on-field abilities

Croker has a terrible signature, no argument from me there. I was almost hoping it would have been Wighton as he has a very nice signature. In saying that I am a big Croker fan, great club man, skipper and all round good guy so despite the terrible looking signature I am happy to add one or several to my PC. If anything the terrible signature might drag the price down like it did to the DCE from Dynasty which would be even better for me!

Roberts transferred in January right? Up until then I believe the Titans were a chance and I am sure that the cards would have been already signed. ESP could definitely have held off but they didn't.

I agree that Slater has had way too many signatures but I suppose that is what happens when you are one of the better players in the game and win plenty of gongs. By my count he had 4 for Select and this is his third for ESP

Thaiday might well be in the latter stages of his career but is still a good player and rep incumbent. I don't think his signatures have been overdone, this will be his third.

Another point to remember is that this signature series were based on players from one sports management agency so the choices were significantly more limited. If you look at the relevant sports management site then you will see that mostly the top players have signed. I think @Matt26 made the point that because ESP are also a player management company they find it more difficult to get other players to sign.

Anyways we can agree to disagree, everyone is entitled to an opinion and there are some very good and relevant points made. I personally prefer to focus more on the positives so I can enjoy the hobby.

Even when Select were about to make a release they copped a hiding.

I personally am over signature cards every release.

We have had them in every year since 2000 i believe with the exception of 2010 (which we all know was crap)

It is nice to have them in the PC but how about something like a LLB or something along those lines that is the more sought after instead of a signature ?

As a dogs supporter couldn't be happier with Signature choice cards look great and looks like an awesome release last years was very disappointing but this looks great

I like how they put RTS and Foran into the Cyber Heroes set. Cyber heroes doesn't look quite as good however, it doesn't seem as puzzle-y. If they do look good hopefully they replace the Roberts with a current player.

I'll be trying to pick up a few packs come thursday. Hopefully I snag something decent. I'll try and pick up a common set, maybe a parallel set and a few low-end inserts for sure for Souths but if the heroes look good I'll try and pick up a whole puzzle this year.

It appears they are trying to be all things to every type of collector in a bid to maximise sales/profit and not really satisfying anyone.

Lets face it though if they did LLB they would get hammered for another high end parallel, as really that is what LLB's were. I think they only really held their value so high due to hoarding of the cards, rather than anything specific Select did. Much like the Souths golds. I actually still haven't got around to getting a Bulldogs LLB, because it is too much to pay for what I consider a parallel and my $ can be better allocated for the time being chasing older rare stuff.

I can imagine an ASADA card.

Win a day with an ASADA drug tester as s/he goes from club to club to extract a squirt of urine from some of your favourite NRL stars ***.

*** Stars by which we mean some random U20s player training with the NRL squad for the day. A player you've never heard of and will never hear of again. Prize may include a visit to a random AFL club, but hey, it's still 'footy'.
heres an idea, what about a DNA card.
you will not need any duos, sig cards or case cards, it does the lot, 1 for each team.

As a team collector, I can't complain (other than the 17 thurstons - including the puzzle back).. I like the idea of the SAS in three designs!! CHUFFED with the morgans (additional 5!) At least they aren't all just parallels!.. Only "complaint" would be lack of players, why does Thurston get a second Face of the Game? With players like Lolo, Tamou... Also when Ben Hannant, Kyle Feldt didn't even get a card? Other than that short rant... I'm happy as bro!!

Yay!
