Nowitzki, an 11-time All-Star forward, underwent arthroscopic surgery to relieve a constant buildup of fluid on the right knee. Nowitzki had hoped to avoid surgery until after the season, but he had been unable to play in the last three pre-season games because of the condition. The club said Nowitzki could resume basketball activities within six weeks. The forecast suggests team orthopedist Dr. T.O. Souryal did not find structural damage while performing the surgery. Nowitzki was unavailable for comment. On Monday, he said “I’m usually a fast-recover guy, but you never know.’’ Said owner Mark Cuban: ``This is analogous to any player missing games. We just want to get Dirk healthy. … It was about what was best for Dirk’s health.’’Dallas Morning News
