WASHINGTON -- The Washington Wizards waived Andray Blatche on Tuesday, designating him as the team's amnesty player.
The 25-year-old forward averaged 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds over seven seasons with the Wizards, who drafted him out of high school in the second round in 2005.
The move enables the Wizards to remove the $23 million remaining on Blatche's contract from their salary cap after he failed to live up to expectations and dealt with a series of off-court incidents.
"Andray did not figure into our future plans, and using the amnesty provision is a mutually beneficial opportunity for us to part ways," Wizards team president Ernie Grunfeld said.
And for those saying Mavs have no bench...
Last year - 36-30 - 8th Seed, Swept by NBA Finalist
PG - Kidd
SG - VC
SF - Trix
PF - Dirty
C - Haywood
Bench: West, Jet, Odom, Wright, Mahinmi, Roddy B, DoJo, Azuibuike, Cardinal, JianLian & Mahinmi.
This year
PG - Collison - Pros: younger, quicker, better shooter, better on defence. Cons: younger, IQ level, leadership, rebounding
SG - Mayo - Pros: younger, eager to start, flat out shooter. Cons: not Jet Terry, probably won't be taking clutch shots
SF - Trix
PF - Dirty
C - Kaman - Pros: low-post scorer, defender, and rebounder, veteran leadership. Cons: Age
Bench:
Cunningham, VC, Crowder, Brand, James, DoJo, Da.Jones, Wright.
Also according to ESP - Tadija Dragicevic is also on the roster, but will probably be returned to overseas, and they still need to fill out the remaining spots.
IMO, these guys will be a much better defensive team, they'll be better than 36-30, and they'll be there in the Post-Season. The one thing I do see being a difference maker, is that other teams in the West have gotten better, albeit HOU & POR. Just depends on who they get in the post-season as to where they'll end up (first round, second, etc).
I'm eager to see our new rook's play, especially Cunningham & Crowder. Crowder is a beast of a defender, and Cunningham is so quick! Bernard James is a poor-mans Ty Chandler, but should still get it done.
have to disagree...dont know how you think the team is better? collison was benched in indiana for geroge hill, who isnt exactly a high calibre pg, mayo is mayo aka smokey mcpot...lol..., the jury is still out on him, had a reasonable year last year but why are teams so reluctant to try and sign him? brand is a nice addition and jones is a great defender, kaman is often injured and can he stay healthy? dirk and matrix are aging, really any injuries here really thin the team out, i have to admit though that carlisle has the ability to mesh certain line ups well, much like pop in san antonio...

I always get lost up in the "aging" lines people pull on players. They're like 4 months older than they were when they were playing last season, it's not like they're a few more years older.

I've only compared the PG, SG, PF & C spots with those going out and those coming in. On paper, I think you'll see those coming in are 3:1 in better output on the court.
The Mavs still have some roster spots to fill, and that could make or break the team, but considering those unconfirmed (West, Cardinal, Yi), could be replaced by something bigger/better (apart from Delonte, I like that kid, ha ha), there's quite a reason to SAY that this year's team will be better than last.
Injuries play a part on all teams, you can't say a team is better or worse than another when currently all players are healthy.

The amnesty eligibility window has closed for 2012. There are 42 players in the league who will be amnesty eligible starting next July.
With that line up, I don't think they can.Anyone here reckon that portland might be able to get into the playoffs?
Nice team they and of course its better with batum there
PG: Lillard
SG: Wes Matthews
SF: Batum
PF: Aldridge
C: Leonard
Anthony Randolph + Denver Nuggets = Bainy and Matt are going to be on the same page now
Loving it! Amnesty Birdman and sign Randolph. Masai deserves GM of the year right there.Anthony Randolph + Denver Nuggets = Bainy and Matt are going to be on the same page now

I'll be annoyed of coach Karl doesn't give him minutes considering he dropped 30-ish on us.I reckon Randolph may turn out really good...
