Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

Interesting trade scenarios with ORL/LAL/HOU... Dwight goes to LA, Bynum to HOU and who does ORL get? Doesnt make sense to me yet...

Also, WAS amnesty Blatche!!!
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8...mnesty-clause-troubled-forward-andray-blatche
WASHINGTON -- The Washington Wizards waived Andray Blatche on Tuesday, designating him as the team's amnesty player.
The 25-year-old forward averaged 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds over seven seasons with the Wizards, who drafted him out of high school in the second round in 2005.
The move enables the Wizards to remove the $23 million remaining on Blatche's contract from their salary cap after he failed to live up to expectations and dealt with a series of off-court incidents.
"Andray did not figure into our future plans, and using the amnesty provision is a mutually beneficial opportunity for us to part ways," Wizards team president Ernie Grunfeld said.

And for those saying Mavs have no bench...

Last year - 36-30 - 8th Seed, Swept by NBA Finalist
PG - Kidd
SG - VC
SF - Trix
PF - Dirty
C - Haywood
Bench: West, Jet, Odom, Wright, Mahinmi, Roddy B, DoJo, Azuibuike, Cardinal, JianLian & Mahinmi.

This year
PG - Collison - Pros: younger, quicker, better shooter, better on defence. Cons: younger, IQ level, leadership, rebounding
SG - Mayo - Pros: younger, eager to start, flat out shooter. Cons: not Jet Terry, probably won't be taking clutch shots
SF - Trix
PF - Dirty
C - Kaman - Pros: low-post scorer, defender, and rebounder, veteran leadership. Cons: Age

Bench:
Cunningham, VC, Crowder, Brand, James, DoJo, Da.Jones, Wright.

Also according to ESP - Tadija Dragicevic is also on the roster, but will probably be returned to overseas, and they still need to fill out the remaining spots.

IMO, these guys will be a much better defensive team, they'll be better than 36-30, and they'll be there in the Post-Season. The one thing I do see being a difference maker, is that other teams in the West have gotten better, albeit HOU & POR. Just depends on who they get in the post-season as to where they'll end up (first round, second, etc).

I'm eager to see our new rook's play, especially Cunningham & Crowder. Crowder is a beast of a defender, and Cunningham is so quick! Bernard James is a poor-mans Ty Chandler, but should still get it done.

have to disagree...dont know how you think the team is better? collison was benched in indiana for geroge hill, who isnt exactly a high calibre pg, mayo is mayo aka smokey mcpot...lol..., the jury is still out on him, had a reasonable year last year but why are teams so reluctant to try and sign him? brand is a nice addition and jones is a great defender, kaman is often injured and can he stay healthy? dirk and matrix are aging, really any injuries here really thin the team out, i have to admit though that carlisle has the ability to mesh certain line ups well, much like pop in san antonio...

I always get lost up in the "aging" lines people pull on players. They're like 4 months older than they were when they were playing last season, it's not like they're a few more years older.

Kidd 48gms 28.7mpg 6,2ppg 5.5apg 4.1rpg 13.11PER
Collison 60gms 31.3mpg 10.4ppg 4.8rpg 3.1rpg 13.62PER + 1

Terry 63gms 31.7mpg 15.1ppg 3.6apg 2.4rpg 15.80PER shot 37.8% 3PT, 43% FG + 1
Mayo 66gms 26.8mpg 12.6ppg 2.6apg 3.2rpb 14.76PER shot 36.4% 3PT, 40.8% FG

Odom 50gms 20.5mpg 6.6ppg 4.2rpg 0.4bpg 9.26PER
Brand 60gms 28.9mpg 11ppg 7.2rpg 1.6bpg 18.07PER + 1

Haywood 54gms 21.2mpg 5.2ppg 6rpg 1bpg 12.95PER
Kaman 47gms 29.2mpg 13.1ppg 7.7rpg 1.6bpg 15.42PER + 1

Jones 65gms 16.2mpg 5.3ppg shot 42.9% with a 10.3PER

Mahinmi 61gms 18.7mpg 5.8ppg 4.7rpg 0.5bpg 13.5PER

I've only compared the PG, SG, PF & C spots with those going out and those coming in. On paper, I think you'll see those coming in are 3:1 in better output on the court.

The Mavs still have some roster spots to fill, and that could make or break the team, but considering those unconfirmed (West, Cardinal, Yi), could be replaced by something bigger/better (apart from Delonte, I like that kid, ha ha), there's quite a reason to SAY that this year's team will be better than last.

Injuries play a part on all teams, you can't say a team is better or worse than another when currently all players are healthy.

Cuban has blown up the championship team from 2011. It's a shame they were never kept together to go on that second title run and Cuban threw the dice to free up some cap room and get Odom. It's all rebuilding from here and I don't think they've got enough to go deep in the playoffs even if they play well in the regular season. How can they beat OKC, the Spurs or the Lakers with this crew?

i do see what you are saying, but stats dont mean everything!!! comparing collison to kidd doesnt make a lot of sense, when they are at different stages of their respective careers, odom and brand arent anything alike really and kaman and haywood????
what i was saying like a lot of teams, depth and hustle arent there, the roster is so different from two years ago, losing chandler and barea hurt them big time, now kidd and terry hurts them more, they are still a good team, but they wont be challenging anyone much come playoff time, unless they bulid/trade still...next off season will be the telling point with howard, bynum and paul being within grasp, if they dont sign extensions or are traded etc, wouldnt be surprised if dallas lands two biggies...

Aram, I understand that stats don't mean everything man, but in reality, we havent seen these players in a Mavs uni yet, so there's no other way to compare them. Heck, we THOUGHT we knew what we were getting with Odom when he was traded, but that turned out to be a bag of spuds!

You lost me bud, Kidd's already being stated as being on the way out, etc, etc. We all know what he's done over his career, he's a top 5 all-time PG, hands down, but the guy's performances last season compared to Collison's are clearly on the lower side of the comparisons.

All I was doing was comparing what we are letting go, in players going out, and what they provided for our 36-30 team last season, to those players coming in. Again, on paper, it's a 3:1 ration of positive signs, obviously making this team better. With the addition of our 3 rookies as well, that has to count for something.

I didnt think we was comparing the team to 2 seasons ago, simply a 36-30 team last year, to what they could be this year???

It's no news the Mavs had the best team in Club history when they won their first banner, but that's gone now. They let players go, took a gamble and it didnt pay off. Now, they're rebuilding, and I believe they've rebuilt a better team than last years' when the won 36-30.

After all the hopes and dreams for this off-season, I'm not holding my breath next year. lol.

In other news too:

Nug's let go of Birdman, and pickup Anthony Randolph.... hey, wasnt here there once before? lol.
John Hollinger‏@johnhollinger
also, @nuggetsnews says Birdman a last-second amnesty and Nuggies sign anthony Randolph

And Lin's going to be a Rocketeer:
Earl K. Sneed‏@EKS_MavsNBA
RT @SpearsNBAYahoo: Knicks spokesman confirms that Jeremy Lin's offer sheet will not be matched. @JLin7 is now officially a Rocket.

So no more players can be amnestied.

Also, interesting re: S&T deals for next Summer.... So if those playing 1yr contracts for taxpayers don't resign, they'll be leaving via FA!!

Bryan Gutierrez‏@BallinWithBryan
Another wrinkle to remember for next summer: Teams that are taxpayers will be unable to complete sign-and-trade deals.

Bryan Gutierrez‏@BallinWithBryan
The amnesty eligibility window has closed for 2012. There are 42 players in the league who will be amnesty eligible starting next July.

Anyone here reckon that portland might be able to get into the playoffs?

Nice team they and of course its better with batum there

PG: Lillard
SG: Wes Matthews
SF: Batum
PF: Aldridge
C: Leonard

Anthony Randolph + Denver Nuggets = Bainy and Matt are going to be on the same page now
Loving it! Amnesty Birdman and sign Randolph. Masai deserves GM of the year right there.

I love how deep we are too :D

PG: Lawson, Miller
SG: Afflalo, Brewer, Fournier
SF: Gallo, Will-C, J-Ham
PF: Faried, Randolph
C: JaVale, Mozzie, Koufas

Our 2nd 5 is better than some teams starting 5
