hate to tell carney is nothing even close to that kind of money that has been reported dont believe everything you read in the papers he is on a incentive based contract

Tim Moltzen will remain with Wests Tigers after St George Illawarra decided not to seek registration of the fullback's three-year contract with the club.

After several weeks of discussions between the Dragons and the Tigers, the long-running saga is now over. The NRL, which was investigating through salary cap auditor Ian Schubert, released a statement which stated that Moltzen would remain with Wests Tigers.

“Having acted in good faith there is no doubt the Dragons have sought to avoid a difficult situation by withdrawing their registration of the contract," NRL chief executive David Gallop said. “It is certainly the case that the NRL has the power to make an adjudication where disputes arise. Clearly that is no longer required in the current circumstance.

“The dispute in this case should highlight that contracts are binding legal documents which cannot be entered into lightly by any party.

“It is also needs to be noted that the NRL rules contain a number of procedures which protect clubs and players alike and this is a stark reminder of the importance of following those procedures.”

The Dragons released a statement which stated that "Moltzen's actions and physical fitness do not meet the club's expectations".

“Over the past week I met with Tim Moltzen and Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys to discuss this situation, believing the club should not finalise its position until it had spoken face to face'," Dragons chief executive Peter Doust said.

“This meeting confirmed that Tim Moltzen wanted to take advantage of the changed circumstances, presented by Wests Tigers, and was not going to honour any of his previous commitments. At the same meeting, Tim also revealed that he has been carrying a shoulder problem for most of the 2011 season which he had yet to have addressed, medically.

“He in fact told me that his surgeon had advised that very morning that his shoulder would require six months of rehabilitation.

“The shoulder injury was something that Tim or his manager had not previously disclosed and something that would have influenced the club's decision in July."

Doust said the Dragons would not seek to replace Moltzen externally but there were suggestions that the club might still seek compensation over the affair.

DRAGONS REACH DECISION ON MOLTZEN

The St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday advised both the NRL and Wests Tigers that the Club will not be pursuing the registration of the contract signed by Tim Moltzen for seasons 2012-14.
The decision is based on the knowledge that the Club's objectives in signing Moltzen would not be achieved - Tim Moltzen's actions and physical fitness do not meet the Club's expectations.
The Dragons still firmly believe that Tim Moltzen should have been prepared to fulfil his commitment to the three-year contract he and his manager Martin Tauber signed on July 12.
Furthermore, the Club will be investigating the pursuit of its legal remedies against the Wests Tigers, for damages.
The NRL has indicated that they are to review the agent's compliance with his obligations under the NRL rules through the Agent Accreditation Committee for Player Managers, an action the Club would support.

On July 8 this year, the Dragons publicly announced that we had agreed to terms with Tim Moltzen for three years beginning in 2012. On this day, Stephen Humphries telephoned me to express his dissatisfaction with the timing of our announcement.
Whilst I listened to his comments on the timing, it was certainly clear to me from our conversation that the Wests Tigers intended to release Tim Moltzen from the final year of his contract with their Club.
Whilst Stephen continues to state publicly that he has never formalized the release of Tim Moltzen, Tim's Manager Martin Tauber advised us on a number of occasions that the release was "no issue".
Given these expressions of intent that we received, in good faith, we included Tim Moltzen as part of our roster and planning for 2012 and provided a three year contract which Tim Moltzen and Martin Tauber signed on July 12.

THE crisis continues. Des Hasler could be sacked as early as tonight amid news that superstar five-eighth Kieran Foran is the next Sea Eagle poised to defect to Canterbury.

The Bulldogs will target Foran for 2013 - the same season current Canterbury five-eighth Kris Keating comes off contract.

And it can also be revealed that Foran's family want him to play his entire career under Hasler. Foran has a get-out clause at Manly should Hasler leave but intends to remain at Brookvale next season before deciding his long-term future.

But it's understood that the board could end Hasler's contract at a meeting tonight.

Hasler and incoming coach Geoff Toovey are thought to have fallen out over Foran's possible move to the Bulldogs.

Board members are also furious that Hasler has banned them from travelling with and staying in the team hotel for next year's World Club Challenge in the UK.

Already the Bulldogs have held top-level internal discussions about Foran.

With additional money through the NRL broadcasting deal in 2013, Canterbury will spend $1.8 million on him.

It's the latest blow to the premiers, who have already lost several staff members, including scouting director Noel Cleal.

In more bad news for the club yesterday:

RISING forward Darcy Lussick has been linked to several clubs, including Parramatta.

EXPERT video analyst, Will Badel, a key contributor in Manly's premiership win and also used by Ricky Stuart in State of Origin this year, appears ready to leave Manly. Several clubs are chasing Badel, including the Dogs.

Even if sacked by Manly before the start of next season, it's unlikely Hasler would coach Canterbury in 2012.

Hasler would allow Jim Dymock to coach but shift to Belmore in a consultancy and advisory role before taking over the top job in 2013.

Foran, 21, is in England representing New Zealand at halfback in the Four Nations.

This year, Foran and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans combined to shock rugby league by manoeuvring Manly to the NRL title.

Manly's off-season has been terrible since the board's bumbling negotiations with Hasler and COO David Perry terminating 40-year Manly man Peters.

Fans are filthy at Bob Reilly, the Leagues Club and football club chairman who holds the balance of power, over the on-going bungles. Reilly has been under intense pressure to stand down but is ignoring calls from diehard fans.

Perry has presided over a disaster since he took over with players and some coaching staff refusing to speak with him. Should Foran leave, he would reunite with former Sea Eagle Trent Hodkinson at the Canterbury scrum base.

There were also rumours yesterday that Brett Stewart, who also has a get-out clause, could leave Manly but Canterbury has not discussed the former Test fullback.

i really hate Manly in general. its quite funny reading all this inploding going on in the club!!! what a turn around the bulldogs have done from a few years ago eg. players leaving, fans bashing everybody and salary cap issues.

Robert Lui released by Tigers and has signed with Cowboys.

Assuming he is not thrown in jail that is......

If Todd Carney can be made to sit out a year and Lui isn't, obviously depending on his court case, then the NRL has a lot to answer, What Lui did (2nd time) is a disgrace of the very highest order...

100% agree! I've got no ill will toward North Queensland, but if Carney had to sit out a year for what he done, surely assaulting the s#*t out of your partner WHILE drunk, TWO years in a row, deserves similar or harsher action... Time for the NRL and Gallop to either step up against Lui, or shut up about Carney!

Talk that Stagg will be released by Bulldogs to return to live on Gold Coast. Most likely destination is the Titans.
