Apparently Ferguson wants out of Canberra. He is a tight with Furner and team mates and is torn between loyalty or returning to Sydney to be close to Mundine. Cronulla and Parramatta are both keen and the report suggests Ferguson will approach Furner and ask for a release from the final 2 years if his contract at seasons end
Considering they're related and all.... Mundine is a good person, besides his stupid comments when he seeks publicity, he leads a very healthy life, no smoking, drugs, alcohol, does a massive amount of community work , the Mundine you see on TV is nothing like the real Mundine... Don't be surprised if he ends up at Souths or even Dogs as well...
It would a massive kick in the guts for Canberra who have stood by him through alot of shit when he probably should have been sacked. He owes the club alot as they have significantly contributed to his development as a footballer which as now seen him play rep footy. IMO he should do the righty and see out the last 2 years of his contract.
yeah raiders are making sure they keep wighton, i know penrith made a huge play for him. as barret got him in the country side and then used that to lure him into joining penrith, but raiders wouldnt have a bar of it.
The natural progression for Wighton is to go from the Raiders to the Dragons....
I hope Canberra don t release him, means he will be within a short drive from Dugan, which might not be good...
I read an article by big Mal last week. He was mainly talking about the Raiders / Milford situation (BTW am sure Ayoub has attempted to make a back door deal hence his apparent desperation for an early release) and he was talking about lack of loyalty and players not seeing out contracts etc. his solution to was bring in transfer fees, if a club wants a player still under contract or the player wants an early release then at least the club doesn't lose out, especially when it is a junior they payed a fortune to cultivate.
Lets take the Dugan situation for example. He doesn't like Furner, not happy at the Raiders and wants out. Instead of a reasonably amicable parting he acts like a douche, forces the club to sack him and then lands on his feet 8 weeks later playing rep footy and securing a 700k per year contract. In this instance if he wanted out why could the release not be sought by his agent and a transfer fee agreed upon. Dugan is happy as he is out, Canberra get some sort if compensation for all the years of work and money they pumped into him and the image of the game does not get dragged through the mud...again!
Tutty commenced legal action in May, 1969. He fought for over two years for the right for players to transfer to another club. The New South Wales Equity Court granted Tutty's application to have the League's transfer system declared invalid, deeming it an 'unreasonable restraint of trade'.
Like the player draft, I don't see Transfer fees coming back any time soon.
I believe the delay with the Sam Tomkin's announcement is partly due to Wigan haggling with the Warriors over a transfer fee to cover the lost years of Sam's contract.
Did Souths pay a transfer fee for the Burgess brothers?
Meanwhile, the Titans have confirmed the signings of Melbourne centre Maurice Blair and Newcastle three-quarter Siuatonga Likiliki. The club has also secured youngsters Paul Carter from the Bulldogs and Christian Hazard from South Sydney.
