Ryan Hoffman handed his 2013 WCC Winners medal to a young Leeds Rhinos fan who had congratulated Ryan after the game and said " The Storm had played well and had deserved to win a close game"
reports are Ryan thanked him and then a few seconds later walked back to him and said he was very sporting even though his team had lost and said you deserve something for your sportsmanship and handed him his winners medal.

a pitty the game hasn't got more like him instead of a number of jerks it as got in it

This Barba story has shocked me! Trying to explain it to my 10-year old son who idoloizes Barba is hard. Whatever the truth may be, I wish Barba the best of luck and hope to see him back this season and his game breaking best (except against the Sea Eagles and Warriors... ).

Yeah I explained that the pressure was too much for him at the moment and he needed to take a break to sort a few things out because his kids are more important than any sport.

Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg fronted a media conference on Monday to explain the decision to suspend Barba.

WHY HAVE THE BULLDOGS STOOD DOWN BEN BARBA?
"…he's struggling with a number of issues in his personal life and some of these have resulted in breaches in the club's code of conduct. Ben needs help, he needs profesional help. Ben has a number of underlying issues that are very difficult to confront. We have made a conscious decision to move Ben out of the spotlight and move him out of football."

WHAT ARE THE ISSUES?
"There are numerous issues, and I'm not going to sit here and talk specifically about any of them, but Ben's had a life-changing experience with the breakdown of a relationship since he was a young boy, and he's doing it tough, and he needs time and space away."

"It became quite serious to me over this weekend. We've been talking to him a lot but - he doesn't give much, Ben, he's a very private person - but over the last 24 to 48 hours, for me, it became significant enough to take the action we've taken."
WHEN WILL BARBA BE BACK ON THE FIELD?
"We don’t know if Ben will be back in six weeks or six months."
WHAT WERE THE BREACHES?
"Some are small, and some are things that you do day-to-day within the club's operations, and others you take a dimmer view of, but certainly over the last week or so I've seen some signs that have worried me, and we needed to make sure we got on the front foot with him to ensure that we got him some help now before this came to something that would be more drastic."
IS THIS A POLICE MATTER?
"It is not a police matter, this is a matter that the club is dealing with under the club's code of conduct."
HOW ARE THE CLUB SUPPORTING HIM?
"We're providing support to both his former partner and to Ben. We've been in regular contact with her and that's the priority at the moment. The priority's not about getting Ben back on the football field, it's about Ben and his children, and making sure they've got good support structures around them, and the professional advice. It's way beyond my level of expertise."
IS THE SUSPENSION IN RELATION TO AN INCIDENT OCCURRING OVER THE WEEKEND?
"Not so much an incident, it was just a manifestation, I think, of a lot of issues that have been in his life over a period of time. This is not one issue, this is a range of different issues that stem from a breakdown in the family and of a personal relationship."
WHAT HAS BEEN THE REACTION FROM THE NRL?
"I think what Dave Smith said to me this morning is that he's extremely supportive of the action we've taken, because Dave Smith said to me that Ben Barba as a person is much more, much more important to him and to the game of rugby league, long-term. So, he was very supportive and they've been extremely supportive of us in the last three or four hours as we've rolled this plan out to ensure we're looking after him as a man, first and foremost."
HOW CAN PARENTS EXPLAIN THIS TO THEIR KIDS WHO LOOK UP TO BARBA?
"I would simply say this to your 10 year old: Ben Barba's ill, and he needs some help. And let him get the help, let him get the support and assistance that he needs so that your 10 year old can watch him back on the field. He's not ready to play football. He needs help."

People should give Barba a break, he's obviously found it hard being in the spotlight and you can't judge someone for that if you have never experienced it. His problems also seem to have gotten worse after his split with his longtime girlfriend and mother of his kids - that type of thing is hard on anyone, no wonder he is having troubles when along with that he has been the centre of NRL attention.

He also has done nothing illegal and the Bulldogs stated it is not a police matter. He seems to have gambling and alcohol addictions - not something someone should be looked down upon for, he is simply sick and needs help. How dare anyone judge him for that. Addiction and mental illness issues, of which he seems to have both, are nothing to be ashamed of. Yet a lot of society wants to look down on people for having such issues. He has put his hand up and said he needs help and it would have been very tough for him to do so. What he needs is support and no one being judgemental.

And to whoever wrote about Hoffman giving the kid a medal etc. Yes it is a nice thing to see, but don't compare him to Barba, he has never experienced the spotlight or media pressure Barba has over the last year. Also if we are talking about being in the spirit of the game etc. let's not forget Hoffman's team not so long ago did the most disgusting act of cheating in league history - something much worse than a player suffering from addiction or mental issues!

While i agree with what you said Kyle, i hope that it's not more and the dogs are covering up, if they are his issue's then he has everyone support, BUT if there is more (rumours) that i have heard then Greenburg will need to be the first to go...

so did the bulldogs mate or is your memory not that good?

yes sad to see if he has real issues and if he has he will need support and time to get over them

but tell that to the young guys out there that struggle to put food on the table for their young families on 2 bob wages or no job at all and no prospects.

who would be under the most pressure? let's get real about this, the game throws millions at these players and they have guidlines that these players must operate within and as for the media, they don't give a *h*t who's life they wreck, that's not exclusive to sports stars

time will tell if Barba is a victim of the media and fame or a victim of himself

let's hope he is back and playing soon and doesn't turn out to be another jerk that the game as and as had in it's ranks

He'll go fine, he hasn't been able to shoulder charge for 4 years in Rugby so I imagine he's worked it out by now.
