Like most industries these days the CEO does not need to know how it works its all about the money.HE seems to have a great resume..... But what does he know about rugby league
There must be someone with a rugby league background and enough smarts to do this job.
I think the rugby league public would be more excepting of somebody with some sort of nrl knowledge rather than somebody from the scottish banking industry.
Lloyds Bank CEO, David Smith, is the new NRL CEO.

yeah why cant we get one of our own in this job, the afl certainly manages to achieve this so why cant we??HE seems to have a great resume..... But what does he know about rugby league

Interesting to hear that he did not know who the Aussie captain was.....Well I was right about the CEO coming from the banking sector but Gail Kelly must have been on too much at Westpac, interesting that the new CEO is from Foreign shores and he has just left a high profile you would think, type of job to take on a new role 'as he always wanted to be in a Sports management type of role'
I just hope this doesn't become another train wreck type of Scenario where overseas CEO's have been bought into Australian 'Institutions' only to send them on the verge of collapse before recieving a very impressive separation package, Telstra, the NAB, BHP (before Billiton), Commbank etc etc.
The only thing 'preventing' the NRL from becoming a dominant force is mismanagement, hopefully Mr. Smith will have a strong enough prescence to keep the ARLC chairman in the background & away from the limelight.

Used to work at CBA guys. The answer is none if them.
I still think it's going to be a massive issue this guy not having any experience in the game. There are plenty of people on the commission with significant business experience. This guy does not even know the Australian captain.

It's funny, because my wife does work at CBA, and they're hiring from 'outside the square' in a number of management roles to root out the entrenched banking mindset. And it bloody needed it too.
If they'd picked a leaguie, we'd be saying it was still an old boys club
I work for CBA as well. there are a few on here that work for the CBA
