"Select" reference was used only on the point that they are the seller of NRL cards at moment and to point out that the market needs, in regards to your polls, has been apparent for some time. What i have been hoping for and your polls glance/ side swipe the subject is: somebody has dicussions about card patches and signatures concerning say, for example, the All Stars and Origin games. Gets a jersey from both sides(game worn). Produces limited run where I buy a box of 7 cards, i have the chance of getting, say six of the base cards of the team i support, and jersey card. If lucky, extended odds for jersey card with signature. Obviously a cost analysis of the previosly mentioned and compare to event worn/cut signature cost analysis. If this was run in a profit sharing with say, "the men of league" programs, this would lend more street cred and thus longetivity for the card collector's motivation to buy. I don't really think i personally would buy event worn/cut signature memorabillia only, card runs- that is me. Plenty out there would. If you have the opportunity Matt, go for it. As night meets day, it will be a winner.

Now that I know what it is, I HATE THIS IDEA. Looks cheap and may be from something totally unrelated to the game you are collecting from. As if a sig from a drivers licence, will, medicare or RTA M4/M5 cashback printout should become league collectibles because they are stuck on a card! STICK TO CELEBRATING THE GAME ITSELF

From what i can gather, a cut signature is a signature taken from something the player has signed, and stuck onto the card. For example, Andrew Johns might have an old rental tenancy agreement he signed in the mid 90s, he would cut out the signature and it would be pasted onto an insert card numbered 1 of 1, because thats the only card with that specific signature on it. Thats just an example.

Can the community please correct me if im wrong.

On first thoughts I do like the idea as like everyone else I crave something differrent to spark some passion back into collecting.

With time to think about it and having read everyone else's replies I think I am a no on the cut signatures idea as being 1/1's and a signature from an unrelated document it doesn't really fit my idea of collecting. It would be a great PC item and I think it would sell very well via Ebay but I wouldn't buy packs in the hope of hitting a Todd Carney's arrest warrant.

Cheers
Ross

I say NO also. People need to get some imagination and get passed copying the yanks and their silly ideas.

So the rest of the trading card world is in 2011 and we are stuck in the 90s....
Yeah thats good.
.

I dont get this, I dont understand the want for random signatures cut out and then stuck in a card, its like sticker autos, they look dodgy.

At the end of the day if I wanted to collect these type of things I would take a signature book to the game with me, get each player to sign a piece of paper and then create my own card, or even better just get them to sign a card for me. The reason I like collecting auto cards is that the player has actually had the card in their hand and has touched it and personally signed it, knowing exactly what it is used for.

I guess it comes down to why people collect signatures, even cut signatures of people that are no longer alive I disagree with and put them in the same category as the foil signatures that select do. Thats why I feel that when people pass their signatures become so much more valuable because you can never get another one. 1 example is the foil signature that Select used for the signature redemption in the Centenary series, I would pay less than half for that card vs any of the others in the set.

But again, this is just me. I know everyone here is craving for some new release and some innovation in the NRL and also the AFL series but this is definitely something I would not be interested in.

Yeah i wasnt commenting on the cut signatures, It was in response to "copying the yanks and their silly ideas".
Select are way behind the rest of the world.
Maybe read my first response to this thread.
I guess some people just love seeing the same inserts year after year.

I was just watching Fox Sports , and Todd Carney is not going to be arrested anytime soon.... Todd and the boys were playing indoor cricket so the only signature you will get from him is when he is signing his credit card after paying for the teams after party.... Now that would be a good looking signature , Todds name on the bottle shop receipt....

I dont like the idea. If they are still able to then just sign the card. We do need something else, gems have worn off a bit. I like the game worn jersey patch they are still popular.

What is the point of having cut signatures of those players and coaches listed in the first post, when they could just get them to sign some cards properly?!

1/1 isn't something I want either, it would ruin my Newcastle Knights collection!

I think some 1/1 would be great for the hobby and promote sales. Don't like the cut signatures but bring on the ultra rare hits.

I'm all for trying new things, but a definate no on cut sigs. Looking at the basketball example, it just makes me think of someone sifting through a guy's trash looking for signature examples they can cut out.
Visually, it does nothing for me. A lot of folk may lament the foil sigs, but at least the 2008 & 2009 ones looked pretty.
